I Vant to Bite Your Finger

July 29th, 2009 by John Wolfe

Yesterday’s Sounds of Terror entry reminded me of another fond time during my childhood. Roughly two years after incessantly jamming out to Goofy Gold’s tracks of horror, I discovered the board game “I Vant to Bite Your Finger.” My parents gave it to me as a gift in 1981. Within five seconds of unwrapping the plastic, I popped it out of the box and corralled every kid I could find in the neighborhood. It was time for a high stakes game of stick your finger in cardboard Dracula’s pie hole. :)

I can’t recall a lot about the actual game-play, but the main point was to avoid having ‘Drac’ chomp down on the old digits. His bark was definitely worse than his bite, however, since the character’s fangs consisted of soft, felt-tip markers. If he chomped, then you were left with little remnants in the form of two red dots.

One of these days, I’ll swing by my parents’ house and search their attic. While my copy of “Goofy Gold With Horror Sounds” is long gone, I’m pretty sure Dracula is still up there, vaiting and vanting to bite once more.

Sounds of Terror

July 28th, 2009 by John Wolfe

I can’t tell you how big a role “Sounds of Terror”, aka “Goofy Gold With Horror Sounds” played in my life at five-years old! I was absolutely addicted to this 8-Track. I can still recall seeing the commercial on television in the late 70′s and begging my parents to order it. If I remember correctly, the ad featured a visual montage of monsters (as cartoons?) while a sample of the album’s tracks played. Naturally, once I saw that, there was no turning back. Sounds of Terror’s concept was to combine goofy classic songs, such as “Monster Mash”, “Purple People Eater” and “Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport” with Halloween or horror sound effects.

Four songs would play, per track, followed by several minutes of screeches, screams, howls, etc. If you’re interested in seeing a breakdown of the entire album, then I highly suggest swinging by 8 Track Heaven.

Though I was unable to find Sounds of Terror available anywhere online, I have located every song on You Tube, minus the horror sounds. I haven’t heard some of those goofy hits in almost thirty years. Good times!
