Yard Haunters

August 27th, 2009 by John Wolfe

When you consider the vast potential for making new friends and you combine it with all the great features found in social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, it only stands to reason that similar services, devoted strictly to Halloween and haunt enthusiasts, would be formed. Yard Haunters is such a service. The site contains a forum, videos, member blogs and a chat section. As of right now, they have thirty-four members. While that may not seem like a large number, don’t let it fool you — there’s a ton of quality in the work I’ve seen displayed by this group.

In fact, I was very taken by the incredible zombie drawing featured in the first paragraph! “Zombie Ink” is an original piece by Yard Haunters’ member — Ethan Black. His photo pages feature several awesome drawings, along with very cool yard haunt creations (like this beautifully corpsed skeleton) :) and other Halloween related items to help set the mood. I highly recommend swinging by Ethan’s page and while you’re there, be sure and check out all that Yard Haunters has to offer.

Smell Like Halloween

August 26th, 2009 by John Wolfe

Yesterday’s Halloween Scents entry seemed like a perfect segway for introducing the macabre fragrance selections created by Anti-Sally (get it? Auntie Sally) of Goth Rosary. I love unique, nonconformist ideas and when it comes to AntiSally’s “flavors,” you can’t get anymore original. Her products not only break rank with traditional scents, but they’re also free of chemicals and are eco-friendly.

So, she has a creative idea (goth & Halloween fragrance items), green products, and a commitment to her customers that’s reflected in her motto: “What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?” This is my kind of business woman! Here’s a small sampling from her fragrance list:

Crypt — Haunting… the smell of moss clinging to a marble mausoleum.

Nocturnal — Black clothing and dark streets… the smell of clove mixed with patchouli and nag champa.

Wicked — Wonderfully tempting… the smell of supple black leather and tobacco.

Samhain — Spicy and sweet… the smell of Halloween candy, changing leaves and autumn spices.

Alongside her fragrances, AntiSally also creates a wide array of other Halloween and goth items.
