A Haunting Halloween Giveaway

August 11th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Update 10/15: This giveaway has closed. Thanks to everyone who entered. I’ll be in touch with the winners today. Ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties are dying to visit you this Halloween. Okay, maybe there won’t be any ghoulies or beasties but I can promise the ghosties will come calling, if you’re one of the winners in this A Haunting contest. Over the last year I’ve given away seasons 1 through 3, so this time we have the fourth and final installment of A Haunting up for grabs. Five people will win the entire fourth season (ten, one-hour long episodes) in this brand new DVD box set. Here’s a description of the horrors waiting within:

New Dominion Pictures’ A Haunting: Season 4, takes you inside ten real-life horror stories that originally aired on the Discovery Channel. Each eerie, one-hour episode features eyewitness accounts and cinematic reenactments of some of the most spine-tingling, ghostly hauntings ever recorded. Even the most skeptical observer will be shocked and intrigued by these spellbinding tales.

If you haven’t caught any of the previous seasons of A Haunting, not to worry — you won’t be lost. Each episode introduces a brand new encounter with the paranormal.

Here’s a quick peek into “Echoes of the Past,” one of the episodes contained in this box set:

This giveaway will be closing the middle of October (for more details see below). I’ll be doing my best to rush ship A Haunting to all five winners so they can receive it in time for Halloween!

Also, I know some visitors have expressed a concern as to whether or not it’s okay to sign up for more than one giveaway at a time (I’m often running two or three giveaways at once). I so appreciate the concern, and you’re more than welcome to enter each of the giveaways I’m running. Speaking of entering multiple contests, be on the lookout for another spooky giveaway coming in early September.

Guidelines for Entering

Please, only one entry per household. Duplicate entries from the same IP will be deleted. These giveaways are really based on the honor system, but I do my best to make it as fair as possible for everyone. There’s no catch here, everything is free–including payment of shipping and handling for “A Haunting”–I cover all costs. To be entered, leave a comment below showing your interest.

Depending on the volume of entries, comments may only be displayed under this post for a short time. As entries grow, I may remove comments to make it easier for visitors to scroll to the comment box and enter. However, I guarantee all entries will be saved in the order they are received.

When leaving a comment, be sure to include your correct e-mail address and be certain to keep track of your spam or bulk folder after the drawing closes, just in case. Each winner of the A Haunting box set will be contacted through the e-mail address that’s registered with their comment. I will never share addresses, provided by entrants, with any third parties and you’ll never receive unsolicited mail when entering.

This “A Haunting” contest will end at 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on October 14, 2010. All legitimate entries will then be assigned a number in the order they were received. Five numbers will be randomly drawn to determine the winners.

All five winners will then be notified, via the e-mail addresses they provided, no later than October 15th. If one, or all five don’t respond (with their shipping information) within two weeks, then one (two, three, four or five) more number(s) will be drawn to determine the new winner(s). Upon receiving their permission, the winners’ names will be featured at the top of this post.

I love your giveaways. This is probably the only paranormal related show mom and I both like. Count me in!

Oh and you have been bestowed The ‘Strange Men in Pinstripe Suits’ award’ by me at http://southern21.blogspot.com/2010/08/getting-back-on-track.html. Congrats!

  4. autumnforest Says:

Great giveaway! Jeez, I adore that narrator’s voice–he could make anything sound unsettling and scary. Count me in!

  5. Ethan Says:

Very neat, Ghost kids are creepy. I would love to be entered and I may have to send some art work your way to give away on here. (I will give you your own copy as well.) It is still hotter than forty hells here. I will send you a few links and let you pick.

    Cynthia Bauman,

    Thank you for entering.

    Stephanie,

I’m sort of the same with when it comes to A Haunting: I think I saw one episode from the first season when it originally aired and then I just seemed to miss all subsequent episodes, but I was able to catch some reruns a year or two ago. It’s great to hear from you again and I appreciate your participation in the giveaway.

    Andrea,

Thanks for entering. And thank you so much for the Strange Men in Pinstripe Suits award! I appreciate it. Did you get a chance to try the Zombie Blood, yet? I was curious how it tasted.

    autumnforest,

I know what you mean. For me, this series is sorta the modern equivalent to what Unsolved Mysteries: Ghosts was to the ’90s. The reenactments and the narrator’s voice in A Haunting has a similar quality and effect as Robert Stack’s. Thanks, autumn!

    Ethan,

Awesome! I look forward to checking it out. I really enjoy your work. I might have to see if I can talk you into giving me your zombie drawing, the one I posted a pic of a while back. ;) I love that image! Try to stay cool with those crazy temps and humidity.

    Doug,

I appreciate that. Thank you. It’s my pleasure to host these giveaways because I truly love giving to others! In fact, I have a dream of throwing even larger contests. One day I’d love to give spooky trips away to haunted locations or maybe an all expenses paid trip to one of the Halloween haunt conventions like Transworld… that kinda stuff. Thanks for entering and for continuing to support the site. It’s through your support that I believe my dream will one day become a reality.

    meeyeehere,

Thanks for visiting and for entering. You’re totally signed up! I’m on my way over to check out your giveaway now. Thanks.

  9. Tony Says:

Please enter me! I love watching this show in my free time!

  10. Goldie Says:

Just making a comment dear friend: (I tried to hold back but just couldn’t)

I wanted to also congratulate you regarding your “strangeness” award from Andrea. From her blog post I found out what the definition of the “Strange Men in Pinstripe Suits award” meant; “The ‘Strange Men in Pinstripe Suits’ award is given to only the strangest of folk, and as the recipient of such you are deemed very strange indeed. Congratulations.”

If she only knew just HOW strange you are my dear. If you were not strange, can’t say I would be on your website or know you as a very close friend. I finally found someone else on this planet who matches my strange ways…..you! Andrea has excellent taste in picking you.

Also, this is a great give-away John. Thanks to DirectTV and Tivo, I’ve seen more marathons of “The Haunting” than I care to admit to ;-) However, if you ever have a give-away of any of the seasons show of Destination Truth….I’m entering faster than I can type. But, you “might” have known that about me already hey? ;-) I can’t wait for the new season to start on 9/9/2010. It’s been much to long. Good thing we can only enter once cause that’s one entry I would dive into 100 times over.

Speaking of weather, it’s insane!!! Our high yesterday, get this, was 77 degrees with a cool 15mph wind coming off the cool ocean. It was so cold last night I actually had to wear my winter PJ’s. I could take summer any day of the week if it stayed like this. I can’t remember the last time we reached the 70′s for the high. 70′s is usually our low during the summer season. STRANGE weather indeed.

P.S. – I absolutely ADORE the cover to the DVD case. I would easily frame a picture like that. It has the perfect element of spooky in a very classy way. Amazing artwork!!

Also, if Ethan was cool about it, I would totally love seeing his drawings/art work too. I love art and especially drawings…..*ahem* ;-)

  11. Paul Melniczek Says:

Hi John, another great contest. Your blogs are an e-mail I look forward to amidst all the garbage on the web. ;) The Halloween season is almost here. Thanks for hosting another giveaway.

    Paul.

  12. John Wolfe Says:

    Tony,

Thanks for entering. You’re all signed up.

    Goldie,

I’ll make a note this isn’t an entry and will make sure I don’t include your name in the drawing. I know, that was so awesome of Andrea! And when it comes to being strange — guilty as charged. I have to laugh a little because this talk about strangeness reminds me of SyFy’s new show, Mary Knows Best (with psychic Mary Ochino). A couple weeks ago, her son, Chris, got a tattoo on his forearm that said: “Justify Your Eccentricities.” When he showed it to Mary, you could tell she was puzzled by it. They squabbled over it a bit and eventually she summed it up by saying, “Okay, let your freak flag fly.” She’s always having some sort of run-in with him.

Last week they argued over why he got his hairy back waxed, but didn’t have anything done to his equally hairy chest and stomach (the remaining hair created a very evident line on the both sides of his body). He told her his chest and stomach hair was staying put cause they’re his ‘bread and butter.’ She followed that up by shaking her head and sarcastically asking, “Your hairy front is your bread and butter?”

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it or not, but I really find myself enjoying it. That family cracks me up and I like Mary. Anyway, there’s a lot of strangeness (in a good way) on that show that I can relate to.

I’ll definitely keep DT in mind as a possible giveaway in the future. Thanks for the suggestion. SyFy’s launching Ghost Hunters’ premiere in two weeks and Destination Truth a couple weeks later as they gear up for Halloween. GH usually only makes around six shows during other yearly runs, but in fall they always run longer. I’m guessing SyFy’s ratings are really strong with both shows as October gets closer so they make it a longer season for GH. I’m not sure if DT will be a longer run or not, but I know that would be okay with you if it is. :)

You need to send some of that cool weather to Ethan first and me second. We’ve been a little cooler, but still nowhere near that cool. Speaking of Ethan, I’ve posted some of his work before. I’ll look back in the archives and find the link for you. He’s an awesome artist!

    Paul,

Always great to hear from you! Thanks so much for your kind words about my posts/e-mail updates. I’m happy to hear they’re a welcome addition to your inbox. Thank you for entering.

  13. Ron Oliver Says:

John, please accept my entry into your generous giveaway. I appreciate the opportunity amongst your fellow readers/subscribers. This is a great giveaway!

  14. Ethan Says:

[This comment won't be counted as a second entry for Ethan. He's still only entered once. Sorry, Ethan, just wanted to let everyone know you're not getting two entries by me approving this comment, but I wanted you to still be able to reply to Goldie. - John Wolfe]

Here is my Dev account Goldie! B the way, I have always wondered if your screen name was based on the unseen character from the House of Secrets comics? Able’s invisible friend?

    ssflipo13,

I think Discovery may have pulled it from their lineup. Somebody on You Tube was leaving a comment saying they can’t find it anymore, either. Thanks for taking part in the giveaway.

  18. Cynthia Says:

  20. Ella Says:

It would make my day, my year… to win. :) As a paranormal investigator I’m ALWAYS interested in these stories. Great series, though I’ve not seen but a few of them.

    What’s a haunted chicken?
    A poultry-geist.

  24. John Wolfe Says:

    Jessica,

I didn’t know they had a Facebook campaign going for A Haunting. I wish you guys the best with that! Though I never got to see every episode, I really enjoyed the ones I did see. I don’t understand why they pulled it after the fourth season, especially since it had a big following.

Thanks for your entry. I saved your info and your e-mail address, then removed the address from your entry for your privacy.

    Barry,

Oh, man, I never would have guessed there’s ghostly chicken jokes. I have to cry fowl on that one! :) Thanks for entering and for the entertainment.

  29. Crypt Keeper Says:

You never know unless you enter, there is no try, only do or do not…”Yoda” Awesome site John and your props are worth a double take…keep strong and stay scary….

  30. John Says:

    Crypt Keeper,

That’s my favorite Star Wars quote, if not all-time favorite movie quote ever! There’s some very wise, almost sage-like advice found in those films, especially in Yoda’s and Obi-Wan’s dialogue. It’s great to hear from you again! Thanks for your kind words about Season of Shadows and my props. I absolutely appreciate it. And thanks for entering the A Haunting Giveaway. Have a wonderfully spooky Halloween!
