A Haunting We Will Go
December 14th, 2008 by John Wolfe
For the last few weeks, I’ve been noticing how dark and creepy the banks along the Rio Grande have become. Here, in New Mexico, they call this region the Bosque. It’s a low-lying area, running adjacent to the river and contains primarily gnarly-looking cottonwood trees. This was the exact location where, on Halloween afternoon, I collected a large portion of the leaves for my 2008 haunt.
The Bosque is one of those places that can easily inspire the feeling of paranoia. As the wind whips through the tree branches and the cold air tightens its grip on your extremities, you swear you can hear something following close behind! There are many urban legends associated with this region – when you’re out there, all alone; it’s easy to see why. I’m thinking about photographing some of my props in this setting. I can only imagine the looks I’ll be getting from the roadside, as I disappear into the trees and brush, carrying a Halloween corpse.

Your right! There is something about that place ’cause just looking at the photos captured my attention. Actually John, it looks alot like my “sacred spot” I often talk about and the same place where I get all of those amazing, and unusual, Orb photos, like the ones I just sent you this weekend. I might be taking the spook element out of it, or have become more of a spooky person myself but I LOVE IT. It looks peaceful, quiet and the perfect place to just be alone with Earth and whatever else might be wrestling around on the ground. When I’m in deep trance at my “spot” near the immense oak trees, I OFTEN hear “something” in the bush or behind me stepping on the dried leaves and it thrills me. In fact, I would be sadly disappointed if I DIDN’T hear the sounds around me.
These photos are awesome though and it’s as though you peered into my consciousness and took a pic of the image of one of my many favorite locations
But you know me, I’m all about Earth. Lastly, your props would come to life in a setting such as those. They would look so real and so creepy that even know as I visualize such a scene, I’m getting goosebumps. LoL, I sure wouldn’t want to be a passer-byer not knowing you and see you carry horrendous looking creatures over your shoulder, only to put them on/in the ground!!! Might want to carry a business card that day John
What a setting that would be though, Wow! If you do that for fun, be sure to take your camera and snap some shots for us all. Also, if your ever at that location at night, snap your camera a few times and see if you too catch any Orbs. Now I might have to send you photos and show you my “haunting” spot

Yeah, the Bosque looks almost exactly like that for hundreds of miles along the Rio Grande! It definitely has a spooky look to it and a lot of history. Confederate soldiers carved a path through parts of the Bosque, during the Civil War, as they marched north through New Mexico.
If your spot looks similar to the Bosque and it has some history to it as well, I don’t doubt the fact you’re hearing things in the bushes!
I don’t have a business card, but I do have my fliers…better keep them handy, huh?
I’ll definitely post any photos I take of my props in that location.
Glad you like the photos, Goldie.
