A Monster of a Tale

June 12th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Compared to Alma’s dilemma in yesterday’s Creepy Toy Store entry, the character in today’s vid has no worries, unless being potentially devoured by a hideous, shapeshifting monster could be considered more troublesome than having a spooky doll possess your essence. ;)

The Passenger is a phenomenal animated short created entirely by Chris Jones. According to Chris, the project took eight-years to complete–I can totally see why when looking at the finished product!

I seriously hope he picks up some awards for that–it was brilliant and original! You sure know how to find them!

Wow, 8 years!!! And you might be thinking 12 months is quite a taking for the Angel of Death prop ;-) Just imagine if it took you 8 years John. Clearly Chris is extremely passionate about what he creates as well because he didn’t rush a single frame and took his time to ensure the film displayed exactly has he had intended. I admire people like, and you, because something like that takes a GREAT deal of patience and love to see it through to the completed project. Not many folks these days can demonstrate such admirable qualities.

This was a really great piece and I could easily watch a full 2 hours of this animation. Sure am glad I don’t have to ride the RT and I’ll tell ya what, I had best never see ANYTHING shape shift in front of me like that. I can only hope I discover some secret move, such as unplugging the walkman, to make the “monster” go away. If only it were that easy ;-)

    autumnforest,

Thankfully there are a lot of talented people out there creating great spooky stuff. It’s always a lot of fun for me to find it and then share it with you guys! Absolutely, Chris either deserves some big-time recognition or else he should end up with his own animation studio from that piece alone.

    Goldie,

Yeah, if the Angel takes me eight-years to finish then he should be an animatronic and at least one-hundred-feet tall! Of course, at the pace I’m currently going, it may still take eight-years for the present design to be finished. I’ve been having a tricky time squeezing in prop work lately despite my less frequent blogging. Guess I’m going to have to overhaul other parts of my schedule to make the time.

Thanks, Goldie. One area in which I’m not lacking is attention to detail! I heard a painter sharing an old saying that’s talked about among artists the other day on TV. It goes like this: ‘Painting a portrait takes two people–one to paint the picture and another one to hit him/her over the head when it’s done.’ In other words, a lot of creative-types don’t know when to quit once they undertake an art project. Apparently, I need to employ someone with good aim who’s willing to stand by my side at all times!

I’m glad you enjoyed The Passenger. Hopefully the dog didn’t startle you too badly.

    ssflipo13,

    Thanks for watching!

    Camile,

Thank you. This vid does make you think twice before using any media players out in public, huh? :)

Glad you enjoyed it, Julie. I guess my weird/creepy/cool video radar is getting more honed by the day. :D
