Addams Family Cereal

December 30th, 2009 by John Wolfe

Being a huge fan of all things Addams, especially the feature films, I was amazed when I stumbled across this retro commercial and realized I’d never heard of Addams Family Cereal. From the looks of it, they only filmed new footage of Pugsley (Jimmy Workman), Lurch (Carel Struycken) and Thing (Christopher Hart) for the piece, the rest were spliced clips from the first movie.

Had I known about this back in ’91, I would have been all over it. When it comes to breakfast cereals, I’m like Jerry Seinfeld. :)

I have never seen, nor heard, of this cereal before. How awesome you found such a thing. Youtube does have it’s uses from time to time ;-) What a kick ass cereal though; eating skulls and bones for breakfast in a nice big bowl….LoL, classic! Sort of reminded me of a candy I saw this year, it’s probably quite common, by Sweet Tarts in which they had small little packs of skull and bone hard candy. It’s about time candy companies catered to Halloween and trick-or-treaters by actually shaping their candy to all things spooky. With Halloween being so popular this year, 2009, perhaps that will fuel the candy makers into thinking more outside of the box when it comes to design for certain times of the year, especially on Halloween. It will be interesting to see how much more in demand Halloween is for 2010 ’cause it seemed to be off the chart for alot of people this year.

In case you don’t blog tomorrow I wanted to wish you, your family and SeasonofShadows all of my deepest most heart felt best wishes for 2010. Great things are ALWAYS on their way!!! Oh and I wasn’t sure if you were aware of this but we have a rare celestial event happening on New Years Eve night; we’re having the SECOND full moon in one month. This Cosmic event happens only once every 19 years and is called Blue Moon and won’t be visible again until 2028! How odd it is to even type that out. I have a feeling we might see more incredible activity of our Cosmos out there in the years to come ;-)

That’s funny–brings back memories. When my son was little and this ad was on, he would freak out. It took me a while to get him used to scary things. Now, he’s pretty hardcore. Helps having a ghostie mom. BTW, he did want the cereal and never ate it. He was a picky eater. He loved the prizes though! Oh brother!

    Goldie,

I love YT for digging into the obscure. I bypass (for the most part) the most popular stuff and head right into the hard-to-find items. :) Speaking of candy being shaped like monsters and such, I have a good story for you from Halloween 2008. For now, I’ll just say it involves my grandfather and uncle – that should give you a rough idea about the overall tone!

I’m looking forward to 2010 as well. I believe it won’t be long until we see Halloween edge out Christmas in overall popularity.

Thank you so much for the kind wishes for the new year. And, thanks for setting forth those intentions of abundance for Season of Shadows! You’ve been such a huge supporter and great friend to this site/me and I can’t thank you enough. I wish you and your family all the best as well!

    Julie,

It would be interesting to see a collection of all the Addams Family items in existence. I’m not sure if it’s been done or not, but I’d love to see Charles Addams’ estate put a museum together of all things Addams Family related — then and now. Happy New Year!

    autumnforest,

Considering how much you love the paranormal, there’s no way I’d expect your son to be afraid of much of anything. :) I hope you guys have an awesome new year! Thanks for being a big part of Season of Shadows in 2009!
