Cartman Jack-O-Lantern

February 4th, 2009 by John Wolfe

Seeing a pumpkin carved in the style of South Park’s Eric Cartman takes me back to October of 1997. It’s one of those moments (for some reason) that’s remained an indelible memory. I was going to college, working the graveyard shift and building my first serious enclosed haunt setup, which spanned the length of the sidewalk leading up to my parents’ house. South Park was just a few episodes into its premiere season and I had yet to catch an installment. While taking a break from my haunt prep, I switched on Comedy Central, only to have an encounter with four (three, if you don’t count Kenny’s muffled voice) of the most foul mouthed cartoon characters I’d ever come across – and, I loved every minute of it!

It just happened to be the “Pink Eye” Halloween episode, so I was really digging it. This was the episode in which almost everyone was turned into a zombie, thanks to the initial ‘Worcestershire sauce being used as an embalming agent’ scenario. I’ve always wondered if that plot served as the creative impetus behind the Undertaker’s (Victor’s) Haunted Halloween Hot Sauce? Victor, if you’re checking this out, please give me a holler and let me know. By the way, he makes some awesome sauce, and the presentation of the product is worth the price alone.

So, for some people its their first date or their first kiss that’s engraved on their mind. For a Halloween geek like me, it happens to be Cartman calling Kenny an A-hole for wrecking their chances of getting some “Sweetie Pops.” 8)

    In regards to your comment:

Nope…as a matter of fact I’ve never even seen that episode…and it sounds like one I’d like.

The story about how my hot sauce came to be “haunted” is here:

The Undertaker persona stemmed from a Halloween costume that I created the year I started HauntedHotSauce.com. I live on Moonlit Lane in Acworth, GA so the cemetery I created in my yard for Halloween became “Moonlit Hill Cemetery” and my small workshop where my Halloween party was held became “Moonlit Hill Mortuary.” I was The Undertaker and my wife was The Undertaker’s Caretaker. It all just fell into place.

    Hey Victor,

Thanks for stopping by! I’ve been meaning to ask you about that South Park episode for a long time. Thanks for the link – I’ll check it out. That’s a great story about the Undertaker persona and a cool street name to go along with it. All the streets surrounding my haunt are named after people, so it doesn’t have the same effect. :)
