That does it, time to dig through the pantry and see if I have some mini Snickers hiding behind the oatmeal, bran flakes, and my cans of Ensure.

This is the point where backup vocals interrupt my bizarre, morbid descriptions with a, “Shut Your Mouth.” And then I respond with, “I’m just talking about Haunted Hot Sauce.” Once again I’m showing my age, but this time with a “Shaft” reference.

In all seriousness, “FleashFeast,” “Ghoul Drool,” “Mortician’s Mold” and “Undertaker’s Undead” are all hot sauce flavors available at HauntedHotSauce.com. While I’ve only tried Ghoul Drool, I’m positive the other flavors are just as delicious. The creator of Haunted Hot Sauce, Victor “The Undertaker” Ives, is a consummate professional when it comes to creating incredible sauce, not to mention his wonderfully creative eye for detail in marketing and packaging his products.

Each bottle comes in its own creepily cool, hand-made cedar coffin, equipped with moss and fake maggots! In fact, I love my Ghoul Drool’s cedar coffin so much, it still rests on the workbench in my shop for inspiration.

I don’t recommend products very often in my blog entries, but Haunted Hot Sauce is one that I’m very proud to endorse (for free). If you’d like to place an order before Halloween, I’m sure “The Undertaker” can accommodate you.

An Addams Halloween

Either way, the Halloween corpse builder in me finds it fascinating to see a talented artist replicating human body parts from such an interesting medium. Talk about your “Bread of the Dead” (a traditional treat from Day of the Dead celebrations)!

Of course, there’s a perfect pun I can’t resist for this entry: “Night of the Living Bread.” I’m off to the workshop, now — hope you enjoy the video.

A few days ago, I stopped by my parents’ house to replace a bathroom faucet and my mom surprised me with this glass, Halloween pumpkin full of chocolate chip and black cat sugar cookies! However, this isn’t any ol’ ordinary glass pumpkin. When I was a kid, I bugged my parents to buy me this thing at Dunkin Donuts. If I remember correctly, the pumpkin came full of Halloween Munchkins (DD’s name for donut holes) during the 80′s.

After a few Halloweens of the pumpkin being loaded with all sorts of goodies, someone broke it (probably me, but I’ve conveniently blocked that event from my memory). I hadn’t seen a glass pumpkin donut/cookie jar in over twenty-years, until my grandma found this one. She had a yard sale; my mom bought it from her and gave it to me, and ta-dah I have my pumpkin back.

While I was adjusting it for the photo, all I could smell was the cookie scent wafting out the top. I know what I’m having for lunch… well, make that after lunch. Thanks, Mom!

Blood Energy Potion that is. While I’ve yet to try the stuff, I’ll certainly be keeping my eyes open for it after it becomes available (January 2010). It’s currently in pre-order from Urban Collector.

Blood Energy Potion is said to be the world’s first synthetic blood beverage because of a similar nutritional profile to the “real thing.”

The flavoring is fruit punch and the drink has the same color, look and consistency of blood. With vampire fever hitting a new high, thanks to programming like True Blood and books/films like Twilight, I suppose synthetic blood beverages were inevitable.

I really love the packaging on this product. Imagine walking down a busy street while drinking from an IV bag! That would be a head turner.

I’m extremely jazzed because many Halloween snack items are beginning to make their way to shelves! Last year, I wasn’t able to find the “Cap’n” anywhere. But this season, both Halloween Crunch and the Monster Trio arrived super early. I’m still waiting on Target to receive their Halloween food lineup — especially Jones Soda. And, of course, I’m waiting on the piece de resistance: Halloween Egg Nog.

Now the Halloween breakfasts of champions can once again resume! A local grocery store started carrying Franken Berry, Count Chocula and Boo Berry about a week ago. This is in contrast to last year, when I wasn’t able to find the monster trio until October. I think the Walmart stocker, responsible for the cereal aisle, still remembers me. He quickly grew tired of my persistent monster cereal queries during their delay in ’08.

To this day, he gives me the evil eye. Yeah, like I was going to take his, “Why don’t you try eating some Fruit Loops instead?” suggestion seriously during the heart of Halloween season.

Halloween’s Breakfast of Champions

Whether it’s faux cereal art like Postmort-MMMMs, or the real thing, Halloween has been a part of our breakfast table a lot longer than we may have realized. This vintage 1955 Sugar Crisp ad provides an indication of “jack-o-lantern day’s” influence and its rising popularity for use as a marketing tool, even five decades ago. Though companies like Post were willing to endorse Halloween in their print ads, I’ve yet to find any photos of vintage cereal boxes featuring Halloween imagery.

I’m not sure if companies had thought of utilizing their products’ packaging for portraying holiday themes during this time period or not – with the exception of maybe Coca-Cola and Santa Claus. Though the PostMort-MMMMs image was more entertaining, I have to admit that the Sugar Crisp ad makes the cereal look more edible, that is, minus the idea of bear hair stuck to my puffed wheat.
