The Shining Look-Alikes

September 7th, 2009 by John Wolfe

In continuing with my three day theme of posting about The Shining, here’s a great video created by British Channel 4 promoting The Stanley Kubrick Season. The network recreated portions of the set; complete with look-alike actors, cast and crew from The Shining. I can find references to every major character and several minor characters from the film, but I didn’t spot a Jack Nicholson look-alike anywhere. Let me know if you can find him. It’s like a here’s where’s Johnny puzzle. :D

The Shining: A Feel-Good Comedy?

September 5th, 2009 by John Wolfe

It’s become a popular trend on You Tube to post recut movie trailers. With some good editing skills, patience and determination, it’s possible to take a scary flick and turn it into a campy comedy, as seen in the clip below called “Shining.” The Shining (the original), because of its creatively bizarre camera work, gigantic scenery, creepy characters and haunting soundtrack, was a journey into skewed perspectives and warped reality. But, once I saw Jack Nicholson laid over Peter Gabriel’s Solsbury Hill (in this recut version), all that warp ability went right out the window!

It’s strange, but to this day I still can’t watch the original film without feeling a lingering effect afterward. I suppose that illustrates the power of the movie as well as Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King.
