Talking Skull

August 31st, 2009 by John Wolfe

SkullTronix has created an amazing animatronic prop in their talking skeleton head. Most animated props have more clicking sounds in their joints than I do after waking up from a nap on the floor, but that doesn’t appear to be an issue for this Halloween skull. According to their website: “Our SkullTronix DMX skulls are the ‘Ferraris’ of the animatronics world.” There are several voice routines available, but I’m partial to the one included in the video. The only thing missing from the routine is a Ouija board with an animated planchette.

SkullTronix also makes animatronic “SkeleTrons” (skeletons with animated torsos and arms), as seen in the photo, to go along with their talking skulls, but they’re currently sold out for Halloween ’09.

Ghost Hunting & Milkshakes

August 4th, 2009 by John Wolfe

The title for this entry reminds me of those old Reese’s commercials: “You got milkshake on my ghost hunting.” “Well, you got ghost hunting on my milkshake.” Maybe that wasn’t quite how the dialogue went, but I guess that’s what happens when paranormal investigating meets 31 Flavors. :) From the creative minds of Alex Parrish, Aaron Bramley and David Neff comes just that — a look into their hobby of checking out potential ghostly activity, followed by a trip to the local ice cream shop.

Don’t expect extremely serious ghost hunting here (at least in the presentation). It’s more of a lighthearted, quirky, yet respectful jaunt into the world of the paranormal — that’s why I like it so much. Honestly, it’s about as good as anything related to ghost and spirit investigations on the cable networks, only with a smaller budget and less equipment. During this episode, I especially enjoyed Alex’s humorous nod to the Ghost Adventures program, when she references ‘the lockdown.’

Quirkiness aside, they do uncover a few interesting anomalies and personal experiences during an EVP session. In this second installment, they’re checking out an old Walgreen’s store which is now used as a haunted house (The Mansion of Terror) during Halloween.
