Closets are Scary

April 4th, 2011 by John Wolfe

As you probably know by now, I usually don’t post vids containing over the top gore as I prefer being spooked-out by creatively creepy atmosphere rather than violence. However, just as a heads up, the imagery in today’s vid does have a gory scene but it’s portrayed more in a “soft-core” implied manner.

The main thing that hooked me on “The Closet” is that it contains that weird “What the hell? That’s so unexpectedly out of context!” twist I enjoy seeing in creepy shorts. Think of this film as The Cat With Hands meets Bedfellows.

I agree with you on the non gore stuff (one of the reasons I so love your stuff) – but I agree that was entertaining.

    Cheers!

    The Frog Queen,

Thanks for checking out the vid and for your feedback on the type of stuff I usually post. Though I follow my own intuition and personal preferences when I dig around looking for work to feature, I always enjoy receiving feedback, so I know if the entries are appealing to you all.

Ok that was pretty good. I did like the make on the mom and the quick movement of her reaching into the closet. Thanks for sharing . Hope your feeling better.

These shorts are a lot of fun. I would love to make something like this.

“Bawck bawck bawck” That is the sound of me clucking like the chicken that I am! lol! I watched it…. with my hand over my eyes, blocking out most of the screen and with the sound turned down low. I think I do better when I have someone in the room with me, who’s seen whatever scary thing I’m watching before I have, who can tell me when to hide my eyes and who’ll hold my hand in the really scary parts. That’s a lot to ask, huh!? I’m just going to go back to my clucking…..heheheee! And BTW…. one of the things I love most about SoS is the lack of gore! It’s something I strive for in our haunt and certainly one of the places I draw the line at when we make props so I appreciate your sensitivity to it so much! You rock!!! :)

    ssflipo13,

Thanks, man. I’ve been making some adjustments to help out with my most recent health problem and so far the body seems to be responding favorably. I’ll know more later this month once I go see a specialist, but I am feeling better. Thanks for thinking of me.

    Ethan,

Your talents run so deep, I have no doubt you would do great in shooting your own shorts!

    Camile,

Lol! Don’t feel bad, I sort of watch shorts like this in a similar manner. But instead of partially hiding my eyes, I scroll through the comments on You Tube and see what’s being said about the vid prior to even watching it. If it sounds like it’s pretty gory, I usually pass it up and don’t even watch it based solely on user comments.

I’m so glad you appreciate my non-gore policy, too, Camile. In fact, the only reason I posted this (since it does have gore in it) is because it was filmed in a way that implied it more than anything else, that and the face looked more like a latex mask. If it looked super-real then I wouldn’t have put this one up.

Your prop work is excellent in so many ways, one of them being because you definitely achieve a spookiness without resorting to gore!

Awww shucks, Your making me blush. lol Thanks. Can you imagine what we could do if you you and I got together with a few other Halloween fiends and made a film? Epic!

A Halloween collaboration vid would be amazing! Bringing in so many of the great home haunters and Halloween artists out there to work on a video would cause such a thing to go viral I’m sure. I think I’d sit back and let all you extremely talented visual folks do your thing, I’d be happy just to soak it all in and maybe lend my voice to a few spots if the vid called for it. I’m seriously wanting to explore the whole voice over thing more and more, especially after receiving votes of confidence from you and several other visitors.

  9. Ethan Says:

If I ever had the chance I would love to have you do voice over for one of my animations. I have a huge project at the moment for school that has taken over my life.

  10. Matt C. Says:

Dude, that was awesome. I have been trying to get back in the spirit here lately and those kind of shorts are the perfect thing. Thank you..

  11. John Wolfe Says:

    Ethan,

It would be my pleasure to do some voice over for you — just say the word. Don’t work too hard in school.

    Matt C.,

You’re totally welcome. Thanks for checking it out and commenting.
