I'd have to agree with you, Goldie - New Mexico is pretty interesting and amazing. It has such an eclectic blend of not only geographical locations, but also quite the blend of "attractions" at those locations.

When I lived in Arkansas, as a kid, we used to stay out late during summer nights just for the bats and fireflies. However, I've never seen a tree loaded up in the manner you described - that must have been an incredible sight!

One of these days, I will definitely be taking in the bat flights at the caverns.

You've got a point about people being easily manipulated by Hollywood myths and urban legends. From my small amount of knowledge, I think bats, in America, are harmless, outside of an occasional case of rabies.

Thank you for the new year wishes, my friend. The same to you!

Barry,

Glad to see you've decided to enter another giveaway!

Dead ringer...that's a good one. If the zombie in the belfry happens to resemble any of the fearsome group on this shirt, then I would call him "uninterrupted." No way I'd be going near that bell. :)

That is cool as ice! John, you live in one of thee most interesting locations on Earth, well, in our country I should say. What a great photo too. As you might have guessed, I've always adored bats but not for the sake of Halloween. I think they are a creature that has been sadly misunderstood, hmmm, reminds me of someone, me!

Back in 92, the location of where I was living existed this immense tree that always had thousands of high pitched sounds coming from it at night. Upon being overly curious to what was causing the sound, I ventured out late one night to take a look and was beyond delighted to see the tree have more bats in it than leaves on the branches. Many of them would swoop down and circle me, some would get so close their wings would touch my hair. A neighbor of mine thought I was under attack because I had so many bats flying around me and she screamed, which caused both the bats and I to be alarmed. Thankfully, she was so scared, she ran back into her place and concluded I must have been a witch because I never budged and seem to be talking to them, LoL, humans.....silly silly humans!

If people would just stop to think for a moment, WHY are they scared of bats? Becaaaaause of the countless number of movies they've seen of bats landing on the neck and sucking the blood, or turning into a vampire. In my opinion it's more scary given how easy it is to program the human mind of fear than of any sweet little 'ol bat who's just hanging out for the night ;-) You've never known this about me, have you? Learn something new everyday it seems ;-) But WOW, to be able to be so near such a cavern is incredible John, your one lucky Mo-Fo!

HAPPIEST OF NEW YEARS TO YOU JOHN!!! May 2009 bring to you everything you could have possibly imagined AND MORE, lots more!

I'm going to do my best to always find a way to incorporate Halloween into every upcoming holiday. :)

I have seen some of the goth/Halloween weddings. A good friend of mine has even requested my services (in the form of setting up my Halloween props) at her wedding. I would love to have my groundbreakers greeting the guests through a carpet of fog!

I remember you telling me how you will never enter a haunted house ever again. However, I can see how you were able to coax up the nerve to get through the Disneyland Haunted Mansion. I would really like to see Disneyland for the Haunted Mansion, if for nothing else. I've heard they still keep many of their tricks, used in the haunt, a closely guarded secret.

Thank you, Goldie!

John, all of us at Seasonofshadows would expect nothing LESS of you than to post Halloween themed Christmas news. LoL, I even bet your going to find Halloween Valentine themed news/creations as well ;-) Or better yet, Halloween Easter theme? LoL, now that I've gotta see! I have seen on cable a goth/Halloween REAL wedding! The brides gown truly was black, her skin whiter than white, the decorations at the reception were dark and bloody, their wedding photos were taken at the local cemetery, her husband dressed as a dark dungeon master, everything was black, dark, haunting and bloody.....what a wedding hey?

I rememeber Tim Burton's movie well because, at the time, I couldn't get any of my friends to go with me to see it. They thought it was to dark and scary. What I saw was a brand new take on movie animation that I had never seen before and was masked completely in the theme of Halloween, so I couldn't wait to see it. As I am, I didn't care if everyone was scared of the film and went to see it on my own, despite the cries of horror from friends in my "daring" to be "seen" at the movies ALONE. LoL, oh lord forbid. They didn't know me very well did they John ;-)

I had no idea that Disneyland decked out the haunted mansion this time of year. I've been to Disneyland three times, the last time was in 1998 (wow, so long ago) and my 2 favorite rides to go on were the haunted mansion and space mountain, of course ;-) Now, your probably stunned that I would step foot in a haunted mansion given how much you know I will NOT walk into one willingly, LoL. BUT, I knew, and would tell myself often, "look, if this ride was designed with little kids in mind, then I can maintain my spook control factor on the inside and not go into an asthma attack." Even so, when the doors close, and there are no windows, no outlet and the floor is sinking down, and down, and down, I was speaking often to my conscious mind, "it's just a kids ride, it's just a kids ride," and put my mind on repeat cycle saying that over and over again.

LoL, I bet your wondering how and why it is I can love Halloween so darn much and yet am beyond terrified of haunted houses, so much so, I don't care what you persuaded me with, NOTHING would or could ever get me into a haunted house again, not even a made up haunted house in someone's garage. I must have horrifing past life memories of them or something because there's not much I'm "afraid" of. I think it's the dark factor, darkness of the unknown, some place I don't know well, unlike my bedroom which is pitch dark when I sleep but I know the layout. Big difference!

Anyhow, great post and thanks, yet again, for the trip down memory lane. I've always loved my visits to Disneyland and Universal Studios. Traveling is great fun to me. Thank you for everything you do John, you truly are the highlight "find" of 2008 for me ;-)

Goldie,
I truly believe it will work out. Maintain the vibrational state of it being so, feel for the inspired action (and take it), then persist, persist, persist!

Talk to you soon.

Barry,
Thanks, a lot - you too. I'm down with Jack Skellington. :)
