Cornstalk Rescue

October 6th, 2008 by John Wolfe

Two nights ago I fell asleep to the sound of my oscillating fan and missed out on an early October rainstorm. It wasn’t that I was disappointed I missed the rain; rather I wanted to be aware of it so I could have covered my cornstalks. When I woke in the morning, I found we had received several inches. The stalks looked to have more in common with reeds in a pond than they did with being the backdrop for a spooky Halloween scarecrow.

So, all eleven bundles (I had already attached one to the display fence) were taken apart and spread throughout the yard. A few had already started to mold and mildew at the center of the bundles. Thankfully, the sun has been drying them out and they’re getting back into shape. After re-binding them, they’ll be taking up temporary residence on the porch. I’m probably also going to invest in a large tarp to cover over the display fence as I attach the stalks to it, prior to Halloween.

Oh man, they do look like reeds from a pond. What a photo! That sure does suck that happened John but at least you’ll be highly protective of them now and wrap them up in a tarp is a great idea. Probably needed at this point cause you sure wouldn’t want to sleep through another rain storm. I must admit, I would have remained asleep as well, the sound of the rain or the smell of it, the fan going, you’ve been busy beyond busy…..perfect set up for a great night sleep. What a thing to have to wake to though. Knowing how much the corn stalk is an essential element to your materpiece, I would be surprised if at least a few curse words came out ;-) I would have sounded like a sailor, while I was dismantling them and laying them out to dry. I guess most would say, live and learn. LoL, learning more so has indeed been aquired in the case of fragile corn stalk. Just work that MoJo of yours and you’ll have perfectly creepy dead stalks before Halloween….in 25 days! It’s about to move from “crunch time” to “balls busting time”….lol :-) My MoJo will back up you MoJo and your masterpiece will be/is just as you invision.

All my Best Dear Friend, Goldie~~~PS, thank you soooooo much on the congrats about my nephew. Wait till you see the pics, WoW!
