Dark Ambiance 10

July 19th, 2010 by John Wolfe

It’s been a while since I’ve added an installment to my Dark Ambiance series of posts, so to dust off the cobwebs, here’s a vid with some hauntingly beautiful imagery and voices. The music is from Interview With The Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, but I sure wouldn’t have known that had it not been for the vid’s description. Though it’s going on sixteen-years since I last saw that movie, I’m suddenly very curious about listening to the rest of the soundtrack.

Nice find, as always sweetie. You are my go-to-guy when it comes to finding dark tunes. Long ago I used to type in “Halloween music” into yahoo when I wanted creepy music being played. Problem being is that, for most I guess, the definition of spooky music is the typical Halloween “sounds” – ghosts moaning, doors creaking, witches laughter and so on. While those sounds do appeal to me on the surface, deeeeeeeep down in the core of my being I long for tracks like this one and the ones being played on your Halloween radio. Actually dear one, if it were not for you I would have never come upon such tunes and sounds. My list of gratitude continues to grow for you John ;-) Maybe that’s why I’ve always been drawn to what’s known as Sacred Music. Some might say it’s to church-ey but personally I’ve always found it to be haunting and calming at the same time ;-)

I hope you have a wonderful day :-)

I totally share in that with you when it comes to this type of music. Though I’m not religious, I have an affinity for a lot of choir/chorus vocals and I’m a HUGE fan of chants. Though most usually associate those types of sounds with all that’s pious, sacred and holy, I find them to be sort of eerie and dark in a very beautiful way. Typically, that’s a huge contradiction to say something’s eerie and beautiful at the same time, but I can find a lot of beauty in “darkness” — guess that’s the whole “in the eye of the beholder” thing.

I’m the same way about the very typical Halloween sounds; I like to listen to them at certain times, but overall (especially on Halloween night) I’ve got to have a more haunting musical score playing rather than chains rattling and wolves howling.

I’m happy to hear my musical tastes are rubbing off on you. :D A long time ago, one of the assistant managers at work said ‘John has a way of corrupting people.’ I’m just happy to hear I’m now corrupting people in a positive Halloween way!

Hope your day was great, too!

That is wonderfully dark. I could go to sleep to that. (In my coffin deep in the bowels of my castle in the mountains. MWAAHAHA!)

You just described my dream home, well almost… I’d love to live in the mountains, anyway. :)
