Dark Ambiance 2
December 3rd, 2008 by John Wolfe
In searching for dark, Gothic, atmospheric imagery, I’m always respectful and cautious of selecting cemetery photos. There are some absolutely amazing images I’ve come across that include extremely old grave sites and tombstones, but out of respect (when considering the nature of my Halloween creations), I just won’t post them. However, if I find images featuring mausoleum or crypt artwork, and the actual grave or tombstones aren’t visible, I feel comfortable in posting those images.
I guess that’s just one of my weird quirks (and believe me, there are many). It’s my way of showing respect by drawing the line, but still finding a way to honor some amazing artwork.
Speaking of which, this image has completely captured my imagination. I’m not sure of the actual location of the structure in the photo, but it’s given me some ideas for next Halloween. I’m considering building some form of a replica of the structure and using it to replace my cornstalks. The statues would be monster mud creations, the rest I’m not sure about, but the Halloween wheels are already turning in my head.
A big thanks to a friend named Lola, for this amazing image. You can find it at her photobucket site.
