Disembodied Voices

April 13th, 2009 by John Wolfe

In the field of ghost hunting, obtaining high-quality EVPs (electronic voice phenomenon) is only topped by the capture of full-body apparitions. I have to admit, all disembodied voice phenomena intrigues me more than any other aspect of ghostly communication, however, EVPs are quite unique. The signature characteristic of EVPs is they are not audible during investigations. They can only be detected later on, during the playback of audio recordings.

The following video contains some of the best EVPs I’ve come across on You Tube. The audio presentation appears to capture the voices of children, despite there being no children present during the investigation. From the human perspective, the events of 1912, connected to the passing of the children (explained at the You Tube page), are very tragic. Yet, from the paranormal perspective, the voices provide amazing evidence of what appears to be a residual haunt.

EVP’s are perhaps the most intriguing phenomenon out there. I have always wanted to try them out myself.

Mr. Macabre, great to hear from you. Tomorrow I’m picking up a digital recorder and external microphone. I already have an audio editor from the podcasting I do at my other site – so if I capture anything, I can clean it up. I’ll let you know what I find.

I think I’ve heard these before. Some sound kind of creepy but sad. Some EVPs sound more like static than anything. Makes me wonder if people are trying to make something out of nothing.

I anxiously await your findings! There are a lot of EVP recordings on the internet but that might be the most chilling. Some of them are sounds that are slowed down, reversed and ‘tweaked’ so much that it leaves much doubt into what they really are or aren’t, these are unmistakable. Please document where you took your findings, this is fascinating!

Oh good! You decided to venture down this pathway after all. Very much like taking photos of orbs through my camera almost on a guaranteed basis, EVPs seem to be just as reliable when it comes to the “unknown” making itself more known to us. I’m curious John, did you decide to evp your home after all? If not, where are you thinking you’ll place your new system? I’m curious if, on a not so windy night, you would pick up anything at that spooky location you and your uncle were so fond of. That place seems very heavy in energy and ghost activity.

I can’t wait till your new system picks something up and I wish I could be the fly on the wall for that, LoL!!! I’m sure your jaw would drop like mine did for the orb shot where thousands of them were right before my camera. Really odd feeling to know that as I took the photo, THERE THEY WERE!!!! Please do keep us posted Sweetie and HAVE FUN…….this must be exciting for you. For us all ;-) Oh and thanks for the video. I forgot to ask you if you could send me the link where you found that video you were speaking of last weekend. Yet again, you must have read my vibes but then again, what’s new with that ;-) You know me TOO well John!

All My Best For You, Goldie~*~

    Andrea,

I agree. There are definitely instances where it appears people are trying to hear something which doesn’t seem to be there. Then again, I’ve heard many EVps (through television and internet) that are crystal clear and unmistakable. There may be some other explanation for residual EVPs, but intelligent EVPs that interact with the investigator (as long as they are legit) appear to be some form of communication with either those that have passed or some other phenomena we know nothing about. As I start investigating, I promise anything I find will be legit.

    Mr. Macabre,

Will do! I promise I won’t be tweaking anything I capture outside of removal of background noise. If I find nothing at all, then I’ll be more than happy to share that with you guys too. I purchased everything I needed yesterday. Picked up an Olympus digital voice recorder and an external mic. I found out I had to download another audio editor to convert the files to an extension my main editor can handle, so I’m good to go. I’ll probably start recording tomorrow.

    Goldie,

I haven’t tried any recordings in the house yet. Though I’m pretty centered when it comes to this stuff – if I capture something hella-spooky in the house it may make my nights in bed a little more restless. :) I’m going to try a few other locations first and as I become more accustomed to the process and the findings, then I may try my home. I’d love to try Fort Craig, but its about a hundred miles away, so that may be in the future. For now, I’m going to try a local cemetery as well as some other locations.

Glad you liked the video. While it’s sad and makes me upset to know those children went through that experience, it’s also quite intriguing from the voice phenomena perspective. All of my “research” will be conducted with the utmost respect toward the experience and any energy/entities I am capable of communicating with.
