Flying Crank Ghost

January 24th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Chances are, if you’ve been around the online Halloween block a few times, you’re already familiar with the flying crank ghost. But just in case you’re not — an FCG is basically a lightweight, animated marionette. Flying crank ghosts pretty much started out as homemade props, but they’re now being mass-produced by Halloween prop/decor companies everywhere.

As the name implies, most FCGs are designed to look like floating specters. However, several innovative haunters have taken their “cranks” in a different direction entirely. Today’s vids feature my favorite variation on the traditional FCG. Rather than ghosts, these talented haunters have created flying demon skeletons:

That’s amazing! I love the way it moves and it really seems alive. Creepy.

Thanks for checking them out and commenting, autumnforest. Did you notice the yelling? When I initially saw the first video, I thought the screams were part of the prop. :) Apparently, someone was screaming off in the distance, but it fit in perfectly with the footage.
