Ghostly Short: Vanish
September 15th, 2010 by John WolfeWhenever I’m in the mood to post a creepy short film, I always run it through a couple of “tests” to determine if I want to add the piece to the site or not. One of those tests is simply based on overall enjoyment of the vid, but the other I like to call my “nightmare tester.” Anyone who knows me really well can tell you I’m known for having the most bizarre nightmares — it’s been like that ever since childhood.
Anyway, if a short feels like it contains elements I’d find in one of my spooky dream scenarios, I’m always more than happy to post it. Vanish is one of those films that seems to have tapped right into my unconscious mind’s nocturnal adventures in strangeville. While the short’s ending raises more questions than explanations, I do like the creepy elements that hold this film together until the end.

For a little more clarity about the ending, here’s a direct quote, from the filmmaker: “the ghost took him as part of her collection.”

very interesting. I like but hated the part where he was trying to catch the girl and kept losing her . It`s like an anxiety where you can run as fast as you can but they still get away. Very cool. thanks for sharing.

It was alright. I felt like they played on the “Ring” type scares with quick flashes of a girl who you never really see accompanied by the screech sound a little too much. The idea, however, was pretty cool given the statistic on college students missing. Is that “stat” real?

ssflipo13,
I hear you about anxiety and trying to catch someone — those are exactly the type of things that happen in my dreams, especially if I have to fight a person or a thing. In my dream fights, I’m always moving in slow motion, while my opponent is super fast! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Doug,
Thanks, I didn’t know that’s what happens in the Ring. I rarely ever watch modern horror movies. I did see Jeepers Creepers and Resident Evil when they first came out, but I think those were the last modern horror films I watched. I’m not sure about the stat they were using as the premise for the film. Thanks for your comment, Doug.

Interesting….enjoyed watching it, but I agree that the running scenes were too long or too much. But I like the idea, I am curious on how the directory would expand with more time.
Thanks for sharing.
cheers!
