Ghosts of Utah
November 9th, 2009 by John WolfeMany of you know that my favorite type of paranormal phenomena is EVP. Disembodied sounds and voices, whether they stem from a conscious ghostly origin or from some Universal “warehouse” of metaphysically archived audio, always manage to tickle my fancy. While I have no way of verifying the legitimacy of the voices in this video clip, created by You Tube user evputah, they are fascinating.
Many have the typical EVP sound — murmurs buried in static — while others are extremely clear and pronounced. If in fact they are legit, then several represent some of the best captures I’ve ever heard.
After checking out this clip, you may also be interested in watching their video of EVP set to the haunting musical stylings of Kitaro. I love the concept of setting EVP to music. I would have embedded the Kitaro video as well, but the musical content is copy-written.

What was the name of that godawful Michael Keaton movie about EVPs? What a horror that was (and not the scary kind, just the awfully written/awfully directed/awfully conceived kind). I love EVPs too and I must admit that as a hunter, I’ve had mixed feelings about them. My husband is a sound expert and he tells me that there’s no reason why a recorder which is a receiver can’t receive bits and blips of other signals from cell phones, radios, whatever is in the air. He also mentions what I suspect with many ones that are class b and lower, that they can be caused by ambient sounds, body sounds, hand-holding the recorder sounds, breath, and simply things we’re used to blocking out in order to stay sane, like not noticing a neighbor’s dog barking. I’ve seen a lot of people use them as proof of intelligence as if they answer you, but truthfully anything sounds like it answers a question, often times quite mysteriously. I think the ultimate in EVP would be to do it in a cave protected from signals, in a very controlled atmosphere, and with the right equipment to picking it up. Every now and then I hear one that catches my ear, but when it’s that clear, I wonder if it’s just picking up a signal from someone’s broadcast. I love to listen to them. I hold out hope of getting one that blows me away, but probably never will get one like on “The Changeling” with the recordings from the seance–that EVP session caused me to decide to try and record. I still get shivers when I think of it. Thanks for the cool EVPs. It’s funny but as a medical transcriptionist who has to discern even slight variations in tenses and accents, I hear many different things that other people hear when they listen to an EVP. I guess that’s why those ones are class b. Nice auditory finds!

Holy Cow, and I thought some of my EVP’s were clear!!! The clear ones almost sound like they come from a ghost box but upon checking out the youtube users page, there is no mention that was used. He mentions that it’s a collection of his best EVP’s but I’m curious where the recordings were taken. Not by actual location but just a general idea, a home, at the cemetery, going for a walk and so forth. Since there is mention by some of the spirits about their grave, I would assume some of it was taken at a cemetery. However, as you know, spirits can say the most unusual things at the strangest locations. I would have to say this is the best collection I’ve heard of EVP’s out of all of youtube. What a fantastic find John!!!
The video with Kitaro’s music is outstanding. I’ve been a long time fan of Kitaro, as well as Steve Halpern, since I was a teen-age. I’ve never seen anyone set EVP recordings to delightful calming music. I wish there was text to the EVP recordings we’re hearing but the experience of the Kitaro video was delightful. I’m beyond thankful you are who you are dear one, your truly a precious gift to us all. Thank you for sharing this. By the way, did you also check out ParaRealm collection? They have an good collection of favorites too.
Many Blessings my Friend, Goldie

autumnforest,
The Michael Keaton film was called “White Noise.” I agree about a lot of the lower class EVPs being caused by movement. That’s why I always make certain my recorder is stationery, away from my body, and I “tag” every single sound that comes from the environment by calling it out on the recorder. While it’s not a perfect system, I feel it eliminates a lot of room for error.
In recent months, during EVP sessions, I’ve found I have a means (I have no idea how exactly) for “hearing” EVPs in real-time. Naturally, most paranormal investigators would say if I’m hearing them then they are disembodied voices and not EVP. However, I’m the only one who can hear them as they come through. No one else present during the sessions has been able to hear these “voices.”
Upon playback of the recordings, almost 100% of the time there is always a voice present at the moment I stated I was hearing speech. Admittedly, most are poor quality, but they are there. Apparently, it’s some form of being clairaudient. A couple have been so pronounced (in real-time) that they sent a jolt through my entire body as I “heard” the speech.
Goldie,
Based on some of the comments evputah has left behind, it appears he or she is only using a standard digital recorder. They’ve been recorded in a variety of environments. I’m still iffy on some of the Ghost Box stuff because of the large room for radio transmission error, but I would have to say that Chris Fleming’s use of the GB has been the most impressive to date during a couple of his You Tube videos.
Glad you liked evputah’s Kitaro video. I thought it was an awesome creation as well. I didn’t see Pararealm’s page, but I’ll have to check into it. Thanks!
