Goblin Nog
October 19th, 2010 by John Wolfe
So it wouldn’t be October if I didn’t pick up a quart of my favorite Halloween-themed beverage — the one I lovingly refer to as “Goblin Nog.” Technically, Goblin Nog was the name of the Halloween egg nog product released by another Albuquerque dairy back in the mid to late ’90s, but they no longer sell their nog during the most witching month of the year; they now strictly cater to the jolly elf’s busy season. Fortunately, though, Creamland still produces nog with a Halloween theme, simply called “Halloween Egg Nog.” Even so, the Goblin Nog name will be forever be stuck in my mind.
Considering I’ve found very few of my favorite edible Halloween items and Halloween beverages this year, including the conspicuously absent Jones Halloween Sodas, Creamland’s traditional release of Halloween egg nog has me in a state of even greater appreciation for their product.
Here’s a couple of Halloween jokes from the side of the carton:
Q: How do you picture yourself flying on a broom?
A: By witchful thinking.
Q: Who does a ghoul fall in love with?
A: His ghoul friend.
Man, those sound like the kind of jokes a certain visitor leaves for me in his comments. Fess up, Barry, did you write this stuff?
On another note, I’d like to congratulate the winners of the A Haunting Halloween Giveaway: Paul Melniczek of Pennsylvania, ssflipo13 of Buffalo, NY, Cynthia B. of California, Stephanie D. of North Carolina and Andrea of Collinsville, OK — they each won a set of A Haunting’s fourth season. I’d also like to thank everyone who participated — thanks guys!

What a fun thing! I wish more would get into the adult aspect of Halloween. We want treats too and not those freaking miniature candy bars.

The Goblin nog sounds yummy especially with some Kahlua in the glass too. I love the mug!

I never find anything edible in the Halloween sense anymore. Anything special, that is. McDonald’s did bring back the Happy Meal Halloween Pails this year though. Sadly, without the ghost, pumpkin, and witch characters.

autumnforest,
Speaking of candy, I’m usually not much of a sweets eater until October, but I have to confess I’ve developed quite the addiction recently to the Brach’s chocolate peanut butter pumpkins. I’d love to have those things throughout the entire year. And when it comes to egg nog, there seems to be only a handful of places throughout the states packaging it as a Halloween item. I’m not sure why that is, but I’m with you — there needs to be more products like this that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
Julie,
Thanks.
Doug,
Oh, yeah, I have seen those McDonald’s commercials for their Halloween Happy Meals. Target does have some edible Halloween items that do the cross over thing I was talking to autumnforest about, but I remember them having even more in years past. I’ve been to Target twice in the last three weeks and by now they usually have the Jones Halloween Sodas in, but apparently they’re either not carrying them this year or Jones decided not to make them.
Though it doesn’t spoil my Halloween spirit, cause I love this time of year no matter what, I have been a little disappointed by what feels like an overall lackadaisical attitude toward October 31st on the part of most retailers, including their commercials. I get the sense they’re saving their dollars for an extremely hardcore marketing blitz when it comes to Christmas.

Got the prize today and what a delight! The extra goodies simply lovely! You have to understand that my desk perpetually holds a vampire girl doll, a plastic bat, mugs and key chains from Supernatural – so your little pumpkin and Halloween bag fit right in.

Unfortunately, I’m not much of an egg nog drinker of any holiday variety, but it’s a cute idea.
BTW, my prize arrived here safely yesterday. Thank you for the DVD set and the extra goodies!

I have to say that mug is sweet! I too wish there was more treats for adults to enjoy other than the candies. A nice goblin goo cheese cake would be great but my favorite in the little pecan pics.too bad they couldn`t incorporate them into halloween. Just thinking about this has got my brain working and lol well those sesame candies could well become lice treats. sorry I just had to say that.
On another note I would like to thank John for another awesome give away. Thanks for the season 4 of “A Haunting” I`m going to enjoy that with some bloody popcorn tonight with the family. I really ejoyed the special packing treats with the prize. Thanks again for the DVD set.

Wow, I don’t even really like egg nog but that carton is fantastic.
Good choice of stein too.

Cynthia,
Awesome! I’m so glad you like everything. I love those Halloween bags, too, and I’m thinking about displaying one on my desk. They were made especially for the giveaways by my good friend Goldie, but I’m rather torn because I’m wanting to keep a few for myself.
Thanks for letting me know the package arrived and I’m so glad you’re enjoying it.
Andrea,
I’ve noticed egg nog has that effect. It seems people either love it or they can pretty much do without it. Egg nog’s one of those things that takes me back to my childhood cause it was always a big part of our holiday celebrations. Although, come to think of it, I think I was the only one who liked it back then too. I guess my family always bought it just for me.
You’re more than welcome, Andrea! It’s my pleasure. Thanks for letting me know the box arrived.
ssflipo13,
Ooh, “goblin goo” cheese cake — I think you’re onto something with that one, my friend! I like the sound of that! I haven’t had cheesecake in ages, then you go and throw in a little Halloween theme and I’m really on board.
Very cool! I’m so glad you enjoyed everything I added to the package and I’m glad you guys had a nice, spooky family night last night watching A Haunting. You’ve got me curious, what’s the blood topping made from that you pour on your popcorn?
AllHallowSteve,
Thanks so much. I, too, love what Creamland does with their packaging. And believe it or not, but that glass actually came from Walmart. I think I found it in their Halloween section back in 2007.

Tasty looking …

Barry Huddleston,
It definitely tastes like it looks. That’s one thing I notice, a lot of packaged food and drink changes over time, but egg nog still tastes the same, and just as good as it did when I was a boy.
