Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze

January 22nd, 2010 by John Wolfe

The Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze is an incredible display in New York’s Hudson Valley, containing thousands of carved pumpkins and “Funkins” (synthetic carvable pumpkins).

Man, they have some cool Halloween attractions throughout the Northeast! I used to live back there as a kid, but as an adult who’s lived in the Desert Southwest for almost twenty-years, I’ve forgotten just how gussied up that region gets for fall.

That’s outrageous! You know, wasn’t Sleepy Hollow supposed to be in the Hudson Valley–I can’t imagine a better place to be at Halloween. I would actually rather be there than Salem. The leaves are probably changing around then and it’s probably about as “authentic” as it can feel. We just got some cold rains here and the leaves on my tree finally fell–in January! I had a moment standing outside in the wet cold and got super Halloween nostalgia. That’s how it’s supposed to feel! If we could only change the holiday here to December 31st or January 31st..

    Goldie,

    Glad you enjoyed it.

    autumnforest,

We lose our leaves a little later in the season as well, but nothing like AZ. Thankfully, we had a few good freezes right before Halloween, so there were plenty of fallen leaves for spreading throughout the yard haunt. Still, I don’t think our trees were completely bare until late November.

Glad to hear you guys got some rain. I was hoping it would actually be snow for you. :)
