Growing Pumpkin Time-Lapse

May 21st, 2010 by John Wolfe

With my tomatoes doing well and the corn sprouting up to a couple of inches high now, I’m eagerly anticipating that my pumpkins will start breaking ground any day, but as of right now they’re still in hiding. Maybe watching this vid will help get my gourd-growing mojo working.

That’s what I’ll do–I’ll sing Sweet’s “Little Willy” to them during watering tonight. That must be the missing ingredient for growth. ;)

If the singing doesn’t work, perhaps just talking to them might. Hopefully your neighbors won’t see you talking to the ground and think you are nuts, lol. Good luck with the pumpkins…

Ooooooooooo yes, please do sing to your garden John. Your babies will LOVE that. Your neighbors might hate you for it but the hell with them, your singing for your babies, not to appease your next door neighbors ;-) I’m a bad influence ;-)

This is totally kick ass! I’ve seen countless numbers of immense pumpkins where I live, it’s a yearly contest around here. However, I can honestly say I have never seen a huge pumpkin being used as a boat. Moreover, just look at how great they float. I think for this Halloween I buy tons more of those baby pumpkins, carve them out, cut them horizonally and float them in my Mom’s pool with candles in the middle of them. Most would use something more romantic for floating candles but how cool would that be to see cute little floating pumpkins illuminating the water instead? Totally kick ass, that’s how. I’ll have to show this video to “Monkey boy.” ;-) ….lol, made ya laugh and I know what your thinking of right now……………right ;-) Hehehehe

Okay, John, can we expect a maiden voyage of your pumpkin boat on a local lake? I wanna see that :-)

You gotta do what you gotta do. Maybe they’re just shy and need a little confidence booster.

BTW, I have something for ya over at my little blog: http://paranormalstories.blogspot.com/2010/05/spreading-love.html

lol yeah it has nothing to do with the seaweed extract or the other nutrients they give it lol

    Julie,

Funny you should mention that because I’ve always been the kind of person who talks to everything, whether it’s living or inanimate–including talking to myself! Someone walked right along side my fence last night as I was talking aloud to the pumpkin patch… guess they got a good show. :D By the way, the pumpkins broke ground yesterday! I have five little pumpkin plants above the surface now.

    Goldie,

I’ve gotten to the point where I talk, sing, and even whistle, but usually in a controlled fashion. I was happy to see a somewhat more constructive use for the big pumpkins being utilized in this vid than destroying them for the sake of seeing something that large be destroyed.

I think that’s an awesome idea for decorating your mom’s pool. By the way, I didn’t even realize they had a pool. Thanks for the laugh about you know who and the monkey.

    autumnforest,

If I ever decide to grow record breakers, then that just may happen. ;)

    Andrea,

You are so kind to give me both awards! I really appreciate it and am happy to see you thought of Season of Shadows again. I apologize that I never got around to doing my part of accepting the award when you gave it to Season of Shadows last year. But, I will definitely make good on it this time. In fact, that will probably be the subject of tomorrow’s blog entry.

    ssflipo13,

Yeah, the seaweed probably had something to do with it, too, but I’m sort of banking on it being all due to Little Willy, cause I can belt out a good rendition of Sweet’s songs. :D

LOL that was terrific! geez, I had no idea this was a fairly normal occurrence–very large pumpkins turning into boats. the real kicker was the pumpkin regatta and the music…rolling on floor here…

  8. John Wolfe Says:

The music gets you into it, doesn’t it? I’m still singing “Little Willy” and it’s been a week since I posted this! LOL!
