Halloween 2010 Preview

January 27th, 2010 by John Wolfe

I just added the Halloween 2010 Preview page to the site. While I’ll definitely be posting all of my prop building updates here in the blog, the preview section will make it easier for anyone wanting to checkout what’s in the works for October 31st. I plan on updating my progress (no matter how big or small) with new videos at least once a week, so hopefully I won’t bore you guys out of your minds. ;)

The vid in tonight’s post is also my first entry on the new page:

    John;
I’m thrilled that you’re showing the process. There’s something about seeing how one tinkers with the parts of a final Halloween piece that seems to make the season continue on every day of the year. The anticipation is enthralling. I can’t wait to see where you take it. That is a really impressive device you’re modeling. I remember when I saw it last Halloween, I thought to myself “if I won the lottery–that would be part of my home decor to greet me when I come home every night.” Yeah, if I had an understanding hubby, the house would be Halloween 24/7 year round. Guess that would take the magic of it away, though, so I’m willing to plot and plan until next Halloween. I’ll have to do updates on my doll display. During the year, I hope to get my hands on some mannequins and work on my doll costume. I want to do the porcelain mask and a wig that looks like Mary Tyler Moore and a 1950s belted dress and pumps and use very stiff movements. Should be super creepy, but not like yours–yours will be talked about for years! p.s. I still say you sound like Christian Slater or a young Jack Nicholsen

This is going to become one scary creature come Halloween!!! I thank you ahead of time for doing weekly updates John. It’s always nice to see your progress along the way and what all goes into it. The Angel of Death sure will stand out this year, I would imagine your going to get quite a reaction on Halloween night. Thank you for sharing this with us and I look forward to your future postings.

    autumnforest,

Holy cow, I’d love to have ScareFactory’s animated version greeting me, too! Immediately, upon finding their video of the “Angel” in action, I became obsessed with that prop. Mine won’t be animated, but if I can get it to look anywhere near the original, even as a static creation, I’ll be happy.

Cool! A porcelain mask will be perfect for your costume. You’ll blend in nicely with the dolls and mannequins. The trick-or-treaters will have a difficult time telling who’s real and who isn’t, and that’s the best way to get a good startle scare. Looking at your 2009 pics, your haunt is awesome! I’m sure you’ll be creating plenty of talk for years to come as well, especially after the doll/mannequin extravaganza of 2010. :)

    Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Goldie,

I’m hoping he’s going to be scary. There’s still some tricky design stuff to work out. The wings are really huge on the original, but I may have to scale mine down a bit more — otherwise, they’ll be hitting the roof in the garage. I’m also hoping the arm will be sturdy enough to support the weight of the prop. I’m going to do my best to design him fairly lightweight, but the wings will probably add several more pounds.

Either way, I’ll show you guys the process, whether it works with this design, or if I have to make some changes to get him up and flying. :)

Thank you for joining me for these updates!

    Hey John,

The prop looks like its off to a good start! I cant wait to follow the weekly progress updates.

Unfortunately I wont me doing a haunt this year… so I’ll be living vicariously through you!

I’m sorry to hear you won’t be able to do a haunt this year. But, by all means, Joe, you’re more than welcome to join in on my haunt, albeit vicariously. I really feel like my yard haunt belongs to you and all of my visitors as well, ’cause it’s your support that helps fuel my inspiration even more. Thanks for your words of encouragement!

  6. Goldie Says:

LoL, well John, it seems MANY of us live vicariously though you ;-) That was the going comment on Halloween night in your chat room; for many of us who couldn’t do a haunt we had an excellent and up close feeling of experiencing it anyways thanks to your many videos, your chat room and by all means your WEBCAM. The combo made all the difference but it was that webcam that really brought it all home for many of us who were glued to our monitors staring through your webcam. It all started and ended so fast though, it just blew my mind but kudos to you for going to such great lengths to ensure an excellent Halloween haunt experience. You really do go all out and please know how much it’s deeply appreciated by all of us my friend. 1,000X over THANK YOU for being you!

That’s one of the coolest things about the webcam page, Goldie. I love the fact it became a place for visitors and other haunters to enjoy themselves if they’re unable to host their own haunt. That’s why I absolutely want to work on getting a second camera into the haunt this year. Likewise, I appreciate your participation and the participation of all my visitors! I mean it when I say you guys inspire the hell out of me.

  8. Dave Lowe Says:

Thanks John, I’ve been telling myself for a long time (years actually) that I really should work more on my Halloween decor all year round. These posts will fun to check in on often keeping the creative juices flowing.

Always great to hear from you, Dave! I know what you mean about wanting to get a major head start on Halloween. This is the first year I’ve actually begun working on something this far out. I knew I needed to give myself plenty of leeway because the “Angel” prop will be taking me in directions I’ve yet to try on previous projects.

    Thanks for your comment.
