Halloween 2010 – Update 10

April 10th, 2010 by John Wolfe

With the weather warming up, I decided to finish the structure of the torso and give the ribs a little mache to lock them into place. As the temperature gets progressively hotter, I’ll have to switch into headband wearing mode during the mache process.

With both hands covered in glue, it’s too messy to periodically remove my glasses and wipe my brow, so I learned a few years ago to wear headbands–they’re not only functional, but they look hella sexy, too… yeah, right! :D

Hey John! That looks sooooo awesome! You could get away with black dye and simply use it at a lesser dilution and then not soak it as long. Just soak it until it looks the color you want. Did you ever see that Dick Van Dyke show episode where they were dyeing the rain cloud outfit for Ritchie and their hands got dyed black because they didn’t realize they needed to wear gloves and then had to go to a dinner honoring Black achievements? The lesson–use a stick or gloves. Hee hee

I’m so glad you’re doing a garden too. I want to hear how it’s going. When things start popping up–you’ll have to film the progress for us.

Hey man, it is looking great ! I can`t wait to see the finished product. And thanks for giving me a ton of ideas on how to hook things together and mache.

Grrrrrrrr, yummy a man building spooky corpses in a headband ;-) You won’t find me knocking headbands because they do serve an important purpose: keeping the sweat out of your eyes. LoL, I dare you to show yourself with your headband on, no I double dare you ;-) Is it red and blue like the ones from the 70′s? Headbands are coming back like bellbottoms so you might be more in style than you know.

Oh goodie, a garden. I sure do wish I was there to help cause one of my favorite things to do is garden. We know your going to grow corn and pumpkins but what else where you thinking about growing? I take it you have a good amount of soil under such a rocky bed covering? Where I live gardening is quite easy because we do have so much soil but when I was in Florida, the acres were mostly of sand. Gardens had to be grown in those long wooden boxes that are not a part of the Earth at all. One of the good things about the internet is it’s so easy to do deeper research into what would grow best in your kind of climate and also thrive in the hot summer heat.

Thank you for the update John. I do appreciate visually seeing how things are coming along :-) Have a beautiful day dear friend~*~

    autumnforest,

I never saw that episode, but I’m glad you thought of mentioning it, otherwise I may have dipped my hands in! :) Awesome to hear that the black dye will work. I’ll test it out on a few small pieces of muslin until I get the desired look and then apply it to the wings.

Yeah, I’m psyched about growing my own pumpkins and corn and I’ll definitely be adding some updates about the garden from time to time.

Thanks so much–glad you like the Angel’s progress.

    ssflipo13,

I appreciate that! Thanks. Glad the vids have been helpful.

    Goldie,

Right now, I need a haircut (badly) and a shave–so, if I were to take a pic of myself rocking out a headband, I’d probably resemble some character Will Ferrel played in one of his comedies spoofing the 1970s. :D I don’t have a red one, but I do have gray and dark blue with the Air Jordan symbol on them–they’re Nike bands.

I can’t think of the name of the other seeds I’ll be planting right now, but I know they’re good for keeping bugs away from pumpkins. I’ll have to look it up online and then make a trip to the store so I can pick up the seeds. It’s totally sandy in my backyard, but I’ll be mixing in quite a bit of mulch with the sand. I’m not sure if the soil will be adequate for growing, but I’m going to do my best with it.

Thanks for watching and commenting, my friend.

John, I love how it is looking so far and looking forward to the next installment. Are we going to be able to see you in this headband?

  6. John Wolfe Says:

LOL! I’m not sure I’ll be putting myself in vids while wearing a headband anytime soon. I so appreciate your feedback on the prop! Thank you, Julie!
