Halloween 2010 – Update 2

February 3rd, 2010 by John Wolfe

Shot some footage of the work I’ve done on the “Angel’s” torso and head. During this part of the project, it’s still pretty familiar territory for me, but as the weeks go on, I’ll be getting into some new areas design wise.

Up next, I’ll be adding his ribcage. After that, I have a big decision to make on how to build and anchor his arms and the scythe. Since the overall design for his torso needs to be kept lightweight, I’ll have to get creative in making the parts look realistic, yet functional (i.e., they need to maintain their pose on Halloween night).

When it comes to his appearance, I refuse to make a trade-off by putting functionality over aesthetics. I’m stubborn like that. :D

    John;
    Amazing work–it’s so cool to watch it unfold! Very creative ways of doing it–man! I sure would love to see it in person, but this is pretty nice having you film the process. Lucky neighborhood! My best friend and I were discussing today things we’d like to do with the doll collection and I came up with this idea. We were in the desert collecting rusted scraps of things people left behind because I want to start doing steampunk kind of art and I found all these rusted screws and was thinking–I have to do a doll with these sticking out! As I start working on and morphine dolls, I’ll have to do some photos and posts on it. You have inspired me!

    Thanks, autumnforest! That means so much to me. I’m serious when I say you guys (all Season of Shadows visitors) inspire me, as well. By leaving feedback and showing interest in the prop work, it motivates me to not only take my creations to a new level and continue challenging myself, but also to film and photograph all the details that go along with the process.

    Ooh, I love the steampunk doll idea! That sounds awesome. I’m a big fan of steampunk music — the band Johnny Hollow is one of my favorites in the genre — so, steampunk looking Halloween creations appeal to me in a big way!

    TIME LAPSE = Absolutely!!! Time lapse is one of my favorite features when it comes to watching videos so I think that’s an awesome idea John. Thank you for making this and sharing it with us all. After viewing this video, I can really see and understand easier how all of this will come together plus the photo you had in the back ground help as well. Actually you do have your job cut out for you but of all people who could handle such tremendous detail….you are the ONLY person for this job/task. It’s really coming together and soon, very soon the weather should be turning around so you have warmer days in the garage. It reached 70 degrees yesterday where I live so hang in there my friend. Excellent work!

    I appreciate that, Goldie. Thank you, my friend! It’s about time I make a new Halloween Haunter’s Reality video, plus time-lapse really helps out when it comes to showing the details of how a prop goes together. Right now, I’m storing video footage of the process and once he’s completed, I’ll make the Haunter’s Reality video.

    It’s definitely going to be tricky to get him stationed in the position I have in mind, especially factoring in the arms, wings and scythe, but I love the challenge of working on it. It may take until the end of summer, but I guarantee I’ll figure it all out. :D

    Holy cow, you guys are already in the 70s? It sounds like a hot summer is on its way. Thanks again!

    That is just amazing. I love that you are sharing how it is created. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

    John, Glad to see your getting things going early for 2010. I am looking forward to watching the Angel of Death Grow form its beginning. I’m still trying to figure out if I should work on new props since I’m not planning on living here come October. But I think I might put one new Ground breaker together for the hell of it so I can have some project Updates over on my own site.

    Again, Love what your doing. I’ll be popping in often.

    Thanks, Matt, for watching and commenting. I so appreciate it. That’s the great thing about groundbreakers, they’re so small (for the most part) that you can transport them fairly easily when you move. I wish you all the best for Halloween in your new home!
