Halloween 2010 – Update 3
February 11th, 2010 by John WolfeNot a lot to show you in this week’s Halloween 2010 prop progress report, but I did get a little bit more accomplished on the torso.
When I’m up close and personal with the prop, it’s hard to tell if body parts are in proportion. After watching this installment, it looks like I may need to make that first set of ribs a little larger, based on the size of the skull. Either way, his shroud or cloak will be covering a lot of the body, so it may be cool to leave it as is.
On another note — tomorrow is normally a blogging day for me, as I’ve been going on the 3 days on/1 day off/2 days on/1 day off schedule for a while now. However, I’ll be doing some preparation work on one of the other projects I alluded to in the vid, so I won’t be posting tomorrow. The project is something for SOS that I’m very jazzed about, but I’m keeping it under wraps for a while longer until everything is definite.

John, one of the great things about NOT being perfect with the body is that we would absolutely expect a decomposing corpse to be anything but perfect. In fact the more grotesque and kooky the creations are THE BETTER! Rotting corpses would have old broken bones, sagging and torn flesh, holes in what used to be the muscle and so forth. I would be dismayed if your corpses looked like a perfect human frame, where’s the scare factor in that
We appreciate the updates John and all of the hard work your putting into the site and your creations, not to mention what’s going on behind the scenes
I can’t wait!!!

Thanks, my friend. You know me when it comes to my expectations on my props. Even if the whole frame is built and ready for mache — if I’m not happy with it, I won’t hesitate to start over from scratch. I’ll just have to see how his current build “fleshes out” over the next week or two, then I’ll make a decision.
I can’t wait to get the ball officially rolling on this new project, either. Hopefully I’ll know a lot more by next week.

Wow! I gotta start calling you “Frankie” cause you are winning the award for best Frankenstein ever! This creation is going to be so wickedly amazing! It will be thrilling to see you film it and I wish I could see it in person because I know the effect would be chilling. Heck, I could plant myself in your yard with a laptop and write a horror novel on Halloween night! I like the way you’re tackling it and it’s giving me some ideas for potential faux mannequins if I don’t get enough real ones for my set. I thought that if I can’t find a good marionette creepy puppet film for the garage door, another possibility might be film footage of an eye up close looking about and blinking a lot and put it really large on the garage door. That could be creepy too with a doll possessed house. You’re really inspiring me to get to work on my Halloween now before time gets away and summer heat zaps me. Keep us posted–this is really thrilling. I’d like to showcase your blog on my blog to get people thinking about and excited about Halloween now. We should live it year-round.

Awesome! Thanks, autumnforest. I so appreciate that! I’m hoping he’s going to come together in a hella-spooky way. Even if it takes me till October, I’m going to stay with him until I see the prop completed with as much attention to detail as possible.
There are some really cool Halloween projection videos on You Tube you may want to look at for some ideas. You can find them by typing in “Halloween projection.” Between your creative abilities and your son’s talent with film, I have complete faith you guys will make an awesome projection video/slide show. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you come up with. So, please be sure to film it as I’d love to feature it in an entry here at SOS.
I hear you about the summer heat. We don’t get as hot as where you’re at, but I still have to wear a headband while I’m working in the garage to keep the sweat out of my eyes. I second that about living Halloween year-round!
Thanks again!
