Halloween 2010 – Update 6

March 8th, 2010 by John Wolfe

I was trying to think of another good wing pun to introduce this sixth installment in the Halloween 2010 preview series, but this time I’m drawing a blank. :)

Looking good so far, I can’t wait to see him finished. You have definately put much time in making him and it shows. Again, thanks for sharing the process.

Looking good. Looks like it will be HUGE! Can’t wait to see the final product. Keep the preview videos coming and possibly another FAQ video of some type? Maybe even a review of other haunts you’ve been to or something?

That’s funny. We must think alike. While you panned out to show how big he is, I was thinking “This dude needs to be on the roof over the front door,” and then you say “maybe he should be on the roof over the porch.” Man, can you imagine that outlined by the night sky? You might look up the moon cycle for that night and see what it might be like. That could even enhance it more. If it had back lighting it could look very “Jeepers Creepers” but if you had lightning on it from the front, the sudden glances of it with light on it briefly could be horrifying too. I’m loving this beast–totally cool!

I see you cleaned out some more of your garage. Whatever for ;-) Oh yes, for that huge monster angel of death your creating. LOVE that wingspan, WoW talk about massive. Your yard haunt this year is going to be very very full of props and of much activity of lookey-loos walking down the street, or of course the ones who drive to the location to admire your work. It looks great John, you coasting right along :-)

    Julie,

Thanks for watching and for your kind feedback.

    Dr. Necropolis,

Thanks and I appreciate the suggestions. One of these days I would like to sit down and do a followup to my “Shout Outs and Q and A” post from back in the fall.

    autumnforest,

LOL! You read my mind. :) I’m seriously considering placing him on the roof due to the sheer size, the only thing is I may not be able to get good photos of him in that location on Halloween night. I’ll probably try placing him in a few different positions on Halloween week and see what works best prior to the 31st. If I do go with the rooftop, then that should create a pretty striking appearance, especially if it is a full moon (or at least close to it)!

I’ve also been thinking about setting him up in a parking lot near a busy intersection a few days before Halloween–that may stop some traffic! And while they’re stopped, I could always hand out fliers and Samhain scented business cards.

I want to thank you again for suggesting muslin for the wings. I picked up about ten yards of it today. It’s very lightweight, so I may use it for his shroud as well.

    Goldie,

Yeah, while the garage is still messy, some of it did have to be reorganized to accommodate his ever-expanding size! Really good eyes–I’m surprised you noticed that. Not counting the width of his body, total wingspan is about twelve feet. The left wing measures six feet across and the right should be the same when finished.

If I get him high enough up in the air, the sheer size of the wings alone should catch the attention of trick-or-treaters and their parents from many houses away! :D

    Thanks, my friend.
