Halloween 2010 – Update 7

March 15th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Finished the framework for the Angel of Death’s left and right wing. Now, I have to work on getting the Batman theme song out of my head. I can see gigantic bat-like wings in my sleep. :)

Once again, a special thanks to autumnforest for suggesting the muslin fabric.

    My God that’s huge!!!

I know I’ve said this before but your dark angel sure is coming together nicely and with a really nice pace to. Hard to believe but I guess it IS time to take on the texture of the wings. The muslin fabric looks like it will do perfectly for the job so that was indeed a great mention. Networking does come in handy and for many reasons of course. I’m sure we’ll have a much different visual for the update come next week and if not, that’s fine too because it’s important, as always, that you work at your own pace. I am filled with great anticipation and excitement though. Great update, thank you John :-) )

P.S. Hey, you have a nice hunk of weight machine equipment in the middle of your garage. Looks like you can do a few things with it not to mention it looks like it just came from the gym ;-)

It looks amazing. I was really shocked by how bit it is when you see the whole thing in one shot–jeez-o-rama! It’s going to be so sinister. I’d give anything to be under that thing looking up at it. Man, I’d keep it as a prop in my yard year-round. Great job–glad the muslin worked. It’s a very easy one to work with and lets some light through it which can be cool for backlighting. I can’t wait for the next installment.

    Goldie,

Along with it being time to add texture, he’ll be getting his first exposure to the outdoors this week, too… well, the wing(s) will anyway. After attaching the muslin, I’ll be moving the wing painting into the yard. Eventually, the entire structure will have to be brought outside for some work, so that should raise a few eyebrows in the neighborhood. :) Aside from showing you guys what’s going on, I usually like working in secrecy inside the confines of the shop, but some stuff will require being in the open air (like spray painting).

Glad you like how he’s coming together!

Yeah, that’s my leg sled (that’s what I tripped on when backing up in the video LOL). You can work quads, hamstrings and calves on it via leg presses, hack squats and calf raises.

    autumnforest,

Thanks! He’s definitely grown larger than the image I even had in my mind back when I first decided I was going to build him in 2010. After seeing the muslin, I realized you’re absolutely right about back lighting. Because of that, I may try placing some lights to the rear of the haunt this year–especially with how high he’ll be in the air–it should cast some nice shadows.
