Halloween Artwork Giveaway

September 25th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Update — 12/05/10: This giveaway has closed. Thanks to everyone who entered. I’d like to congratulate Autumnforest of Phoenix, AZ; Fiend4Halloween of Hemet, CA; and Franz McLaren of Tustin, CA. Autumnforest won Lot 1, Fiend4Halloween won Lot 2, and Franz won Lot 3 of Ethan’s awesome Halloween artwork.

Based on recent correspondence, I know how excited some of you are for Halloween to hurry up and get here. The e-mails I’ve been receiving lately tell the tale of a thirst for October 31st like I’ve never seen before… okay, so I’m exaggerating a bit, but not by much. :) And while I can’t do anything about speeding up Halloween’s arrival, I can certainly try to quench that thirst a bit with some wonderfully spooky Halloween artwork in this latest giveaway. Ethan Black, an EXTREMELY talented artist and regular visitor to Season of Shadows, has been kind enough to provide me with nine pieces of Halloween-themed artwork to give to three separate winners.

I’ve divided his work into three lots; each lot contains three spooky renderings. The pieces range from small and medium-sized prints of his work, to an original drawing by Ethan.

Up first is Lot #1 (pictured in the top paragraph – click image to enlarge). This group of three contains the lantern waving zombie resting on a tombstone; a wicked-looking page from the Necronomicon (a fictional book of magic found in the works of H.P. Lovecraft) – the Necronomicon piece is an original of Ethan’s; and a matted, grinning jack-o-lantern print. Up next is Lot #2 (pictured in this paragraph – click image to enlarge). This second group of three contains “The Old Witch” performing her rituals over a cauldron; a framed print of a pumpkin-headed scarecrow standing guard over the harvest; and a matted print of a devil’s silhouette.

Last but not least, is Lot #3. This third group contains the hooked skeleton; the matted “Witch And Moon” print; and the matted haunting “Ghost” print. Lot #1 will be given to the first random number drawn. Lot #2 will be given to the second random number drawn. And, Lot #3 will be given to the third random number drawn. For more giveaway details, see the Guidelines section below. Again, I cannot thank Ethan enough for his kindness and generosity! Be sure to check out his Deviant Art page, where you can enjoy more of Ethan’s fantastic artwork and purchase his prints.

Guidelines for Entering

Please, only one entry per household. Duplicate entries from the same IP will be deleted. These giveaways are really based on the honor system, but I do my best to make it as fair as possible for everyone. There’s no catch here, everything is free–including payment of shipping and handling for all three lots of Halloween artwork–I cover all costs. To be entered, leave a comment below showing your interest.

Depending on the volume of entries, comments may only be displayed under this post for a short time. As entries grow, I may remove comments to make it easier for visitors to scroll to the comment box and enter. However, I guarantee all entries will be saved in the order they are received.

When leaving a comment, be sure to include your correct e-mail address and be certain to keep track of your spam or bulk folder after the drawing closes, just in case. Each winner of Ethan’s Halloween artwork will be contacted through the e-mail address that’s registered with their comment. I will never share addresses, provided by entrants, with any third parties and you’ll never receive unsolicited mail when entering.

This Halloween artwork contest will end at 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on November 15, 2010. All legitimate entries will then be assigned a number in the order they were received. Three numbers will be randomly drawn to determine the winners.

All three winners will then be notified, via the e-mail addresses they provided, no later than November 16th. If one, or all three don’t respond (with their shipping information) within two weeks, then one (two or three) more number(s) will be drawn to determine the new winner(s). Upon receiving their permission, the winners’ names will be featured at the top of this post.

If you would like to see your Halloween or paranormal website or business promoted through SOS and you have some appropriately themed items to give away, please contact me.

    autumnforest,

Congrats, Autumn, on finally being able to display things the way you’ve always wanted! But I’m wondering if “Dale The Doll” has some objections to that. ;) When I talk to you about the doll, it always reminds me of that episode of Three’s Company where a ventriloquist moves in next door to Jack, Krissy and Janet. I can’t remember everything that happens, but it was typical Three’s Company wackiness. Thanks for entering.

    Stephanie D,

You’re very welcome! Thanks for participating.

    Kelli Lusk,

Thanks so much for adding Season of Shadows to your list of favorite blogs (that’s very kind) and thanks for entering the giveaway! I also appreciate your leaving your e-mail info in the comment too. It does help to verify your address for me. I saved it and then removed it from the comment for your privacy.

    ssflipo13,

It’s my pleasure. And I hear that about how amazing Ethan’s art will look hanging on your walls. One of my winter projects is to officially get my Halloween room organized with everything displayed properly. Along with setting up the display shelves, I’m totally wanting to paint the walls with fall colors and hang a great piece of Ethan’s artwork that he gave me.

    Thanks for your entry.

    Dex,

Glad you’re enjoying the giveaways! Thank you for participating.

I’m happy to hear that, cause all of this tremendous artwork definitely deserves a good home. :) Thanks for entering and for checking out Ethan’s work over at Deviant Art. Also, I believe this is your first comment on the blog, so I’d like to welcome you to Season of Shadows.

    Dee,

Thank you, that’s very kind. I agree with you about not ever getting enough of Halloween. I look at anything related to Halloween sort of like the old Ruffles potato chips slogan: “Nobody can have just one. ” … at least I think that was Ruffles’ motto. :D Thanks for taking part in the giveaway.

    Curt,

Thanks for entering. I don’t think you’ve left a comment before, so I’d like to welcome you to Season of Shadows!

    Franz S. McLaren,

    Barry Huddleston,

Man, you’ve gotta have kids, or else nieces or nephews. With that vast reservoir of spooky jokes, I’m guessin’ there’s some little ones responsible for keeping you well supplied. :D Thanks, as always, Barry, for the laugh and for entering.

    Goldie,

Thank you so much. It’s my pleasure. I feel honored that Ethan has trusted in me to handle the displaying of his artwork for this giveaway, and I also feel honored that he’s chosen Season of Shadows as the place to actually give it away!

    Thank you for your entry.

Seriously, only recently discovered your blog & am enjoying it heartily. I am a longtime lover of Halloween & “dark art.” I post a big long “everything you need for Halloween” entry every year on my LiveJournal. Not sure anybody ever reads it, but it’s my way of keeping motivated. I plan to add your url this year as an exceptional Halloween-spirited blog to follow.

Thanks for all the work you do. Looking forward to more posts as the count-down continues. -Karen, aka TheMadBlonde

  25. Jacob S. Says:

Happily dropping my name in the hat!

  26. John Wolfe Says:

    EllasFire,

Thank you for your kind words about the blog. I so appreciate it. Though it sounds like you’ve been visiting for a while, I think this is your first comment, so I’d like to welcome you to the site! I love it when that crispness of fall starts creeping into the air too. We’ve been having a little of that, but our weather has still been a bit warm. Though, I’m sure the cool temps will make it by Halloween. Usually, the week before Halloween, as I’m working outside on late night prep stuff for the haunt, I find myself having to wear two pairs of socks, a jacket and a pullover wool cap — I look like the kids from South Park. :D

I wish you all the best with finishing your props. Have fun and have a spectacular Halloween!

    TheMadBlonde,

Thank you so much! I’d be honored to have Season of Shadows mentioned in your “Everything You Need for Halloween” entry. Welcome to the site, Karen, and thanks for participating in the giveaway.

    Pam Morris,

You’re all signed up. Thank you for entering.

    Peanutgnome,

It’s my pleasure. Thank you so much for entering. It’s great to see you here, as I’m familiar with your work, but I don’t think you’ve left a comment before. Welcome to the site. Thanks for stopping by and for entering the giveaway.

I’m totally wanting to do another Haunter’s Reality installment — sheesh, I can’t believe it’s already been two years since I made the last one! I’m working on getting extra video footage of fall/Halloween activities to stockpile for a future episode, plus I’ll be filming some more time-lapse prop work over the winter months. I’d like to have HHR #5 posted some time during the early part of the new year. Thanks for asking about it.

    Ghoul Friday,

Thanks. It’s always great to hear from you! I’m thinking that thing Lady Gaga carries around in the “Love Game” video might be appropriate for me. :D

    JoeInMemphis,

Great to hear from you, Joe! Thank you so much for your kind comment. I love the fact you enjoy spending time at the site. It makes me happy and proud to know you’re having a good time here. Thanks for entering the giveaway and for making Season of Shadows a place where you share your Halloween enthusiasm and spirit with all of us!

    Ethan,

I know your comment was for everyone, but I’d like to personally thank you for making this giveaway possible.

    Jacob S.,

Great to hear from you! Thanks for entering.

  27. Camile Says:

Ethan, these works are amazing! Thank you so much for your generosity in offering them!! That is outstanding!! I know the thought would never in a million years occur to John, but if *I* was in John’s shoes right now I would be seriously tempted just to keep my mouth shut and keep your art for myself! Thank goodness for all of us that John is far more of a generous and sharing nature than I am!
Me, I’ve got a bit of a Gollum thing happening when I see Ethan’s work “Ooooh, my precious!!!..” ;)
So, a big thank you to both Ethan and John! You guys sure know how to make Halloween kook’s hearts skip a beat!! :) !!

  28. John Wolfe Says:

    Camile,

You’re giving me way too much credit, my friend. :) The thought did cross my mind to keep it all for myself. Just as you were doing the whole Gollum thing, I was doing the whole Daffy Duck bit where he and Bugs are looking for treasure in the open sesame episode: “Mine, mine mine! It’s all mine!” LOL… just kidding! I love Ethan’s work, but I’d never do that — the visitors always come first.

    Thank you for entering.

  29. Camile Says:

I LOVE that Bugs and Daffy cartoon! It’s probably one of my top 5 fave’s!!!
I also love the “duck season/rabbit season” ones but the one you mentioned has some of the greatest and funniest lines ever in it…..
“Consequences, schmonsequences, as long as I’m rich!”
    “Uh,..open Saskatchewan,..uh,..open sarsaparilla….”
“What a way for a duck to travel, underground” as he pounds dirt out of his ears!
and when Bugs is finally sitting on the beach opening oysters and says “Hey, look, it’s a pearl” but pronounces it more like ‘poiy-yurl’ always cracked me up!
And the squeaky sound the camel’s legs make as the owner and it ride away after giving Hassan his orders is great!
And of course it’s one where they were supposed to take that left turn at Albuquerque! lol!!
I spent an enormous amount of time as a kid sitting in front of the TV and watching Bugs and Daffy and the great MGM/Tex Avery cartoons and can recite a lot of them start to finish including some of the silly sound effects. It’s an odd talent and thus it is appropriate that it’d be one that I have. lol! ::huge wink!::

  30. Michael Rola Says:

    Awesome contest!

  31. John Wolfe Says:

    Michael Rola,

Thanks for taking part in the giveaway and welcome to the site!

    ——————

Though Camile’s commented twice on this post, I’m making sure she is only entered once in the giveaway.

    Camile,

Sorry about putting that message at the top of this response. I ALWAYS encourage you or anyone else to comment as much as you guys like. But since this is a giveaway, I just want to make sure everyone knows it’s being conducted fairly.

Wow, you certainly do remember that cartoon. I had forgotten all about Hassan. As soon as you mentioned his name, it brought back memories of “Hassan-chop!” And I absolutely have a special connection to the wrong turn at Albuquerque thing — lord knows I’ve made a lot of wrong turns in Albuquerque! I seem to have a very strange ability to recall tons of things from my time as a toddler (around two and three), and I totally remember watching that cartoon in our apartment (ironically enough, in Albuquerque) when I was about three-years-old. Of course, I think I have seen it once or twice since then, but it seems to be one that’s rarely shown on television.

Another of my favorites with Daffy was the one where he was a pet for that little girl whose father totally despised him. Daffy was always eating at the dinner table with the family, regaling them with stories of the wild parties he had been attending: “What a party brotherrrrr.”

Thanks for the smile and chuckles, Camile!

  32. Judy Vars Says:

Your blog is amazing! One of my art pieces went into it. “Ghosty Girl” I was very flattered. Hope I Win.

Thank you so much for your very sweet words about the blog and thanks for being so kind in allowing me to show your piece on the site. I also feel very flattered in knowing that you’re visiting. Welcome to the site and thank you for entering.

  48. Annamarie Dodge Says:

i love all the artwork…that one of the skeleton behind the gravestone would be great for what you and i were talking about in private…. awesome artwork either way!!! just completed the schools fall festival, so got to dress up for the first time this season, and will be more elaborate next weekend…will have a little more time to get all the makeup done and find the rest of my actual costume…but the house is decorated for the most part, until next weekend when we put out our screeching swinging flickering eyed bat out, our headless corpse bride and the twin zombie babies “phil and lil” lol

  49. John Says:

    Annamarie Dodge,

I used to thoroughly enjoy those fall festivals as a kid. They were one of the few things I looked forward to in elementary school, next to summer vacation, that is. :) I love the description of your decorations. I bet your haunt looks awesome! It’s always great hearing from you, Annamarie. Thanks so much for entering the giveaway for Ethan’s work and have a wonderful Halloween!
