Halloween Cam Running in Shop

August 20th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Everything’s set to start the webcam feed from the workshop at 8 PM (mountain standard time) tonight. I’ll be applying some mache while a variety of Halloween music plays in the background. Hopefully, as the feed stays consistent and we get closer to the big night, there should be some conversation in the chat box too. If you wanna take a peek or have a chat, please stop by the Halloween Webcam page.

Speaking of mache work, I finally shot an Angel of Death update vid this morning:

On another note, I’d like to congratulate J. Allison of Atlanta, Georgia; Debby Reagan of Sanford, Maine and Barry “Paranormally Lucky” Huddleston (He’s been on a big winning streak at SOS lately!) of Florida. They each won a copy of the book, Halloween: Vintage Graphics. Congratulations, you three and thanks again to everyone who participated in the Vintage Graphics Giveaway.

John, that is wicked awesome! I’m sooooo thrilled. You have given me the shot of Halloween mood I need to get my butt in gear. I’m assembling a steampunk costume and it’s going to take some time to do all the mechanical parts. Now, I’m ready to get hopping. The angel is gorgeous (I know, he’s supposed to be menacing and he is, but to me, that’s beautiful).

Looking forward to some webcam prop-making action. Congrats to the lucky winners of your giveaways, too!

Yaaaaaaa, finally, we get to watch the Master at work again!!! Sweeeet!!! It’s been much to long my dear but at last the time of year has arrived when I get to chill out and calm down at night to watching you work on your props. Thank you so much for doing this again. Last year it really added to the intense climatic build up of your haunt on Halloween night. I’m looking forward to feeling that again.

Actually, I’m working on a project that’s most special and now I have the joy of using YOU and the webcam as my mood enhancer (not like I need one). You have your Halloween music…..I have watching you and hearing your Halloween tunes. An added bonus is having the sun set sooner now so by 8ish, our skies are quickly turning black….more dark blue due to the city lights around here. I sure would love to live in the country for many reasons, lol, all of which you know ;-)

Oh, your prop looks narly John!! Damn!! I’m not sure how you do it exactly but I just adore how each and every single one of your props looks different. They have the human skeletal shape of course but the texture looks so different from one to the other. THIS GUY….his skin looks wonderfully torn. In fact, lol, he looks so yummy….I want to touch it, lightly glide my fingertip over his decayed outer covering. Your work just continues to blow me away John. Creativity runs hard and deep in you sweetie, without a doubt!

Thank you so much John, I love the book. Some really awesome graphics in it that has inspired me to draw and paint some of my own! Think I’ll decorate up Gnostalgia for the upcoming spooky holiday. *BIG WICKED GRIN* Also, thank you for the sweets, they’re my favorites! You’re very sweet too! *HUGS*

Your progress is really great. You will have a great display as always. I have finally gotten started on my own project. I just wish I was up to see your live feeds and for the chat. Working nights is no fun at all. :(

The angel of death is looking great. What are you using for the material for the paper mache? Paper towels, tissue, or paper? Can`t wait to see it finished with wings. Keep up the great work. I like that drawing of your garden . It was very nice of the child to do that for you. And congrats to the winners of the Halloween:, vintage graphics book. I have to go and buy that one it looks awesome.

  7. The Frog Queen Says:

Wow, that is coming along nicely. Great work as always. Thanks for sharing definately going to check out the webcam! Your are a brave man :D That would be too much pressure for me :)

Love the artwork gift. That is very special, a great gift.

    Back to prop building!

    Cheers!

    autumnforest,

Thank you so much! I like the sound of the costume you’re planning. I love anything with a steampunk or goth look to it. There’s a great animated vid on YT I keep coming across that I’m sure you’d enjoy — it’s done with silhouettes, but I can’t think of the name of it now. The whole thing has a steampunk theme and is centered around quirky flying machines. I may post it as an entry one of these days. Thanks again!

    trickortreat,

Thanks for checking out the feed last night.

    Goldie,

Thank you! I’m so happy to hear the webcam helps enhance the Halloween spirit for you, even to the point it’s starting to become a tradition. Very cool!

I’m like you, I love when it starts getting darker earlier. I usually water the garden around the same time every evening and I’ve started to notice I’m having to get out there a little earlier each week due to the diminishing light. In the words of Linus (while trying to convince Sally to wait for the Great Pumpkin with him): “It won’t be long now.”

Thanks for your kind words about the prop! I really like the alternate ways both you and Autumn are describing him: yummy and gorgeous. :D I’ve never thought of him like that, but I know exactly how you both meant it. Thanks so much!

    Debby,

Awesome! Glad you received the book and are enjoying it. It was pretty cool knowing it was headed back to my old stomping grounds. I lived in Maine for a couple of years as a kid. Glad you liked the Jolly Rancher candies too. I love me some vintage Halloween decor, so it sounds like your home is going to be decorated right up my alley. Thanks for letting me know the package made it. Hope you have a great fall/Halloween!

    Ethan,

Much appreciated, Ethan, thank you. I hear you about working nights. Back when I worked grocery, I was on a combo of evening and graveyard shifts for around five-years. Hang in there, man.

I may eventually start running the cam in the daytime too and hopefully the chat will be getting busier (even in the day).

    ssflipo13,

Thank you. His bones are all made from rolled up newspaper and the skin is Viva paper towels. I am using an even thicker mache mixture on the Angel than on any of my other props. Normally I do a 3 to 2 ratio (3 parts glue, 2 parts water). But this time I’m using a 3 to 1 mixture, so I’m almost using just straight Elmer’s Glue.

Happy to hear you liked Kieran’s drawing too! Both Kieran and Camile are awesome and extremely talented. Camile creates a great home haunt (with Kieran’s help). After seeing her decor and homemade props, I can see where Kieran gets his talent from. He’s going to be quite the home haunter.

    The Frog Queen,

Thank you! I so admire your haunt and your kind words about my creations mean so much. Oh, yeah, I get a little nervous at times on the cam, too — that’s why I try to stay out of the shot when I can. I like having just my hands show up so it looks like there are two Things (from The Addams Family) doing all the work. :D

Ayup….. another Maine-iac! LOL Where in Maine did you live John? I now understand one reason why Samhain is your favorite holiday. How can it not be with such a beautiful fall scenery such as Maine can give! Do you still get the colorful fall where you live so you don’t miss it?

  10. Camile Says:

John, your angel looks amazing! He’s coming along so beautifully and I”m so glad we get to see his progress! bravo!

Kieran and I are just tickled beyond words that you have his picture up in your shop and showed it! He was wriggling with happiness as he sat on my lap when we watched your video together! I, myself , can’t stop grinning over it and I know he’s just thrilled! It’s the first mention and notice his name and artwork have ever gotten on YouTube and he’s beside himself with pride! Thank you so much for so kindly mentioning it! After a long, hot summer vacation of being cooped up at home with Mom it’s like a breath of fresh air to get notice and appreciation from another grown up besides Mom! Thank you, John! You are a prince! :) !

  11. John Wolfe Says:

    Debby,

I certainly remember hearing “Ayup” like it was yesterday! :) We lived just a few miles from the Canadian border, in a small town called Caribou. I’m a military brat and my dad was stationed at the now defunct Loring Air Force Base. We arrived there during the winter of either ’80 or ’81 and wow, I’ve never seen snow like that in my life! Of course, I had a blast in it cause I was only six or seven. All the neighborhood kids used to get together to sled, ice skate, play hockey, etc., all winter long.

You’re so right about the gorgeous autumns in Maine! I do miss it, but thankfully, even though I now live in a high desert, we still get fall colors along the Rio Grande. The river supports tons of trees, mostly cottonwoods and they all have massive amounts of leaves that change their colors.

Thanks for bringing back some fond childhood memories!

    Camile,

That is so great! It makes me very happy to know you both enjoyed seeing it in the video. Sometimes, I can get a little nervous being on the webcam, but the last two nights of broadcasting the feed, I would occasionally look up at Kieran’s drawing and it brought a big smile to my face, causing me to forget all about being nervous. Please tell him if he ever feels inspired to draw something else for me that it’ll go on my wall too! I’d love to decorate the shop with more of his artwork. :)

And thanks for what you said about the angel, Camile. I really appreciate your kind feedback!

  12. Matt Culver Says:

John, nice to see you going strong. I wish I could say the same. But, things are getting back to normal for me and with that I am redoing my Blog (Weirdo Wearing A Mask) and giving it a new name. “The Halloween Geek”.

I absolutely love your Angel of Death and cant wait to see it in all its finished evil glory. You as always are doing some amazing and inspirational work.

    Keep it up man.

  13. John Wolfe Says:

Great to hear from you, Matt! I was just thinking about you and Weirdo Wearing A Mask a few weeks ago. I wish you all the best with revamping your blog! I like the new name you’ve chosen — I can totally relate to it.

Thanks so much for your kind comment about the Angel. Don’t be a stranger, but, if for some reason we don’t catch up prior to the big night — have a great Halloween!
