Halloween Groundbreaker Update 5
October 17th, 2009 by John WolfeIt’s been around ten days since my last Halloween groundbreaker/corpse update. In that time, I’ve added a lot of texture to the front of the skeleton. Once again, I’ve gone with the torn, sinewy look. Of all the techniques and styles of texture I’ve tried during the last three Halloweens, this one has grown on me the most.
Thanks for checking out the update. I’m headed back to the workshop after posting this entry.

I think if John Cusack and Christian Slater were brothers, they’d have a third brother who sounds like you. You should do voiceovers. The work on the skeleton is just amazing. As someone in the medical field, I really appreciate the detail and work you put into it. It’s truly a form of art and I hope you realize that you are an artist and a craftsman. I can’t wait to see how it integrates into the setting. I can relate to your busy-ness. I’m going through it too. It’s so worth it. I had that Nox Arcana CD playing while I worked on props and it was so inspiring! If I ignore that it’s in the 90s outside, it feels like Halloween! Keep it up–can’t wait for more updates.

Is it just me or does the rotting skin look totally different than with your previous corpses? The skin on this one seems less like hard mache and looks more like a very thin rubber, very skin line. I would tend to agree with you in that this current corpse steals the show from your other corpses for many obvious reasons. This looks just incredible and thank goodness you do these updates John for the webcam doesn’t even come close to showing the true texture of your creations. This is amazing work dear friend and with 2 short weeks left till Halloween, I come back to your favorite saying…….that I won’t say on here of course

It is looking very good. I think I am done making stuff for this year. I finished my mummy prop about a week ago and am going to stick with making jack o lanterns untill the 31st. Have a great Halloween!

The Frog Queen and Ethan,
Thanks, guys!
autumnforest,
Thank you so much! Maybe my anatomy classes are coming in handy after all. I would love to do some voice-over stuff… just putting that out there to the Universe.
Awesome to hear about the Nox CD. I know what you mean. I play “Midnight Syndicate” a lot during my prop work. Sorry to hear about your temps. We cooled down for a while, but our highs are climbing again. At least we’ve had blanket weather during the night.
Goldie,
The skin may indeed be a little different due to the way I applied the towels this time and the fact that the Elmer’s Glue mixture seems to have a different consistency and smell. I’m not sure what’s going on with the glue. But, thankfully, it dries and hardens the same. Thanks for your kind feedback on the prop! Yeah, you’re right, it’s definitely all-out until Halloween and I’m lovin’ every minute of it (my favorite “Lover Boy” song).
