Halloween Groundbreaker Update

September 13th, 2009 by John Wolfe

Shot some work in progress footage early this morning of my recent groundbreaker prop. If you’ve been following along via the shop’s webcam feed, you’ve seen a lot of this guy already. The webcam doesn’t catch too much detail, though, so I decided to examine him with my digital camera. Hope you enjoy the update.

As the countdown to Halloween continues, I’ll do my best to have a video update once or twice per week. Please, feel free to leave some feedback and let me know what else you’d like to see included in my Halloween vids.

Ah, got it! Watching you work John was actually very relaxing. You and my melatonin worked out perfectly to put me in that deep state of relaxation before bedtime. I enjoyed your live web-cam very much so thank you kindly for sharing such intimate details with us all. Most interesting!!!

As mentioned, thank you also for this up close video because, as much as I enjoy the web-cam, it definitely does not capture the fine detail of your corpse. Keep on having fun and thank you for the well wishes. Yes, all is quite excellent on many levels. Did you know that my nephew will be one years old this October 4th? Wow……..where did the time go. He can almost walk now and is extremely tall for a baby his age, as well as being very smart, he’s a very advanced child. Anyways, have a good night and take good care of yourself.

    autumnforest,

    Thank you!

    Goldie,

Glad you got it working and I’m happy to hear you enjoyed the footage. I love “corpsing” while the webcam’s on. While it did take a few days to get comfortable with it (it’s been running for over two weeks straight now), I’ve gotten to the point I forget it’s even there. The stationary webcam is the first step in exploring more and more ways of bringing interactivity into Season of Shadows. I’m wanting to get even further outside the box and really open up the experience for visitors. We’ll see where that takes me.

Amazing, it doesn’t seem like he’s already almost one year old. I don’t doubt he’s tall for his age. From what you had said, he was already really big when he was still very young.

Thanks again and you have a great week!

Oh, he looks so good!! Did I hear you right- that you’ve spent 55 hours working on him? That’s wonderful! And I don’t think his head looks too big at all. It looks like when I shoot a picture of my son (who’s 5) from slightly above and looking down. If you shot him straight on I think the proportions will look different but I agree with you that exaggeration of certain body parts helps with the creep factor! Well done!

Awesome! Thank you so much, Camile. I seriously appreciate that. Yeah, I’ve spent a lot of time on him. All totaled, there’s probably over 70 hours in that prop. The paper towels, once I get to the fine detail work, can be very time consuming. However, I love it because the fine detail work is so rewarding. Once you start capturing a certain look, even if it takes twenty minutes on two pieces of paper towel, the uniqueness starts shining through.

You’re right about perspective and angles. After setting the prop up on Halloween night, the body and head will probably look like a good match.
