Halloween Improv

January 21st, 2010 by John Wolfe

Recently, I’ve developed an affinity for watching vids where people excel in very abnormal, awkward social situations. Perhaps this is because I feel like an inept dufus in most typical social settings. So, it’s great to see others who thrive off of the tension created by exaggerating normal social scenes.

After watching some of YT user, ImprovEverywhere’s collection, I’d have to say it doesn’t get much more socially awkward than the scenarios they invent. In a nutshell, they’re a group of “actors” who live for (kindly) creating controversy and humorous situations in public places.

This first vid incorporates Halloween into an unlikely location: the New York subway system. As you may have already guessed, the actors are the ones wearing the costumes:

This next one isn’t Halloween related, but it is one of my favorites from their “missions,” as they like to call them:

These guys remind me of an old co-worker. In fact, he would have fit in perfectly with their troupe. The man used to wear a Santa Claus stocking cap to movie theaters in the middle of summer.

Just like ImprovEverywhere, he didn’t give a damn what anyone thought about him (no matter what he was doing). And, I admire him and the IE group for that.

I love flash mobs doing goofy things. I dream of being in a zombie walk and a flash pillow fight downtown. That would be a blast. My area is very conservative and it’d be fun to just shake em up!

I’ve seen the zombie walks, but I haven’t come across a mob pillow fight video yet. I’ll have to look that one up. Did you guys get any snow?

    Re: Frozen

Loved it. I would love to see them do more of those. Same location as previously used, so one would think that the employee would have known about that group already.

They also did a Home Depot “freeze” type video that was pretty good, too.

That is realy neat. I wish we had something like that in our area.

The closest thing we have here is a Zombie Walk, but that’s about it.
