Halloween Musicals
November 29th, 2008 by John Wolfe
As of late, it’s become somewhat popular to turn Halloween and horror films into Broadway and Off Broadway musicals. Two such adaptations have been making headlines recently: Evil Dead and Young Frankenstein. Of course, the film Young Frankenstein was more of a horror spoof than it was creepy cinema. Yet, I still enjoy it and associate it with Halloween. The “Puttin on the Ritz” scene is classic stuff!
I haven’t caught either one of the musicals. But, then again, I don’t live near any major theatrical cities, either. Apparently these projects are drawing some big names like Megan Mullaly (Young Frankenstein) of Will & Grace fame. It’ll be interesting to follow this scene a little more closely and see what other Halloween and horror films reach the stage.
