Halloween on Ellen
February 18th, 2010 by John WolfeAnytime science teacher and author, Steve Spangler makes an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, it’s always a wild time. I remember watching this bit the day before Halloween last year. I happened to be inside on a lunch break from painting my groundbreakers, so I turned Ellen on. I’m a big fan of hers anyway, but especially when it comes to catching the annual Halloween episode. In this segment, Steve plays with dry ice, an exploding Pringles can and jack-o-lantern “vomit.”
In case you’re wondering why Ellen’s Halloween costume is an “O” Magazine, she was jazzed about her upcoming appearance (with Oprah) on the cover of the December 2009 issue.

I absolutely LOVE Ellen’s show! This was a really good find John. Ellen and her crew always deck out her stage perfectly during Halloween. Again I say, it’s a crying shame Halloween comes and goes so fast. I remember seeing this episode last year and was most impressed with the dry ice bubbles. T and I could have done that for hours, it looks like such fun. Love the pumpkin bit to…lol…wasn’t what I expected so it was a cool surprise to see so much come out of the pumpkin and so quickly too. My heart went out to Ellen after that show because her costume, as great as it was, threw her lower back out for about 2 weeks. Back pain is NO fun
She’s a trooper though and not once did she call in sick. Someday I anticipate see YOU and your props on her show for a personal “how-to”. Next thing you know, Universal Studios is knocking at your door

I remember seeing this. The stuff coming out the pumpkin’s face was the best. Didn’t he have Ellen climb on a bed of nails for one of his experiments?

So much fun! I love that stuff!! And, I love Ellen too–she has a highly intelligent mind, super quick wit, and just a big beautiful heart.

Goldie,
I agree. They always have her set looking great for the Halloween program. I forgot about how that costume messed with her back again. I’d probably be in the same boat with her had I worn something like that, only it would have been my neck instead of my back.
Have you seen those fog machine/bubble makers? They release fog-filled bubbles. When you pop them, it’s like the same effect Steve achieved with his fog and bubbles, only on a smaller scale. The two of you would of had a field day with one of those, too!
I’d love to go on Ellen’s show, but I’d have one request — she’d have to call Gladys while I was there! Remember Gladys — the senior citizen from Austin, TX ( I believe)? That lady was hilarious. Seriously though, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed to have some form of interaction between her Halloween show and Season of Shadows!
frightnight,
I loved the jack-o-lantern “vomit,” too! I think he did have her lie prone on a bed of nails during one of his previous visits. If I’m not mistaken, that was also the episode where she kept a beach ball afloat on air currents.
autumnforest,
I couldn’t agree more. She’s totally amazing and has such a caring and sincere personality.
