Halloween Q & A, Shout-Outs

September 16th, 2009 by John Wolfe

Recently, I spoke a lot about overcoming fear in pursuit of your goals (specifically Halloween related goals) in my entry Achieving Halloween Dreams. A few days after writing that post, I realized I wasn’t taking my own advice in one specific area — a fear of speaking in front of a video camera. I can make podcasts and narrate videos ’till the cows come home, but I’ve always had a strong fear of stepping in front of the lens and speaking (when potentially thousands of people can see it).

So, I decided to create the video featured in today’s entry in an effort to not only work on overcoming that fear, but also to give a little love back to my visitors and fellow haunters. I’m hoping to make these video appearances a somewhat regular addition to the site. Hope you enjoy it or at least the inspiration behind it.

Underneath the video, you’ll find links to all the sites (if the person has a site) and projects I spoke on.

It’s sure nice to see you and that shout out was certainly nice John, thank you.

I am having qualms about you showing yourself now. I feel as if Harvey the invisible rabbit is no longer invisible and it sort of popped my bubble.

You need to go back underground John. There was intrigue there and well, it’s not there anymore. lol

    Nice video.

Hey! Thanks for the shout out. I like the idea of you doing a webcam. You sound like a young Jack Nicholson/Nicholas Cage. I think you’re very personable and soooo easy to listen to and very natural. You should make it a practice to have the cereal bowl with you each time. Keep it up–Halloween is closing in–it’s your time to shine!

Nice to see your smiling face (I’ve only seen you hovering over props)!

I guess it’s a theme this week of facing fears. I’ve been pushing myself a lot lately, and took tonight off as a reward.

Do you know they aren’t selling those exciting Halloween versions of cereal here? Perhaps I haven’t looked hard enough. I’m interested enough that I nearly had my nose pressed against the monitor, trying to see the green.

My mother is colour blind. I’ve spent most of my life deciphering what she’s talking about. If she asks for the blue item, I know there’s a good chance she wants the green one. And if she wants the red one, it could be the pink or orange one. So if you ever need a colour interpreter, I’m your ghoul.

Finally, John Wolfe in FRONT of the camera……YeeeeeeeePeeeeeeeee!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this down to my bones, no, down to the core of my soul and for sure is a favored video of mine on youtube ;-)

CONGRATULATIONS for making this step. I know it was a biggy for you but you would never know it from watching the video. Your so down to earth and humorous in all the right spots that I was indeed giggling a few times over.

Thank you also for the shout out. While I don’t have a website like most of your subscribers on here do, I am an immense fan/admire of both Season of Shadows AND Wind of the Soul. Your website is truly my favorite Halloween website to go and always the first one I visit for the day before I venture out to others online. Thank you so much for creating this video my friend and I honestly and truly hope you continue to make more and more videos of YOU in front sharing whatever is on your mind. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee ;-)

Again, congratulations for turning this corner……it was a big one for you and you did a brilliant job at it. 5 star for sure………no 10 stars!!! Keep up the great work and I love, love, love the webcam. I can’t stop myself from logging on nightly now ;-)

    Many Blessings Dear One, Goldie~*~

    Atrueoriginal,

The thing, for me, about being underground: while it may create some intrigue, it just didn’t feel congruent with all my talk on living more consciously. I felt as if I was hiding behind my voice, and my work (whether it be Halloween props or my writing). For my own personal growth, as well as for the growth of this site, I felt it was important to move beyond that point of shyness (or stated more accurately, to move beyond that fear). I’ve lived a lot of my life in fear and I’m so tired of that feeling.

I’m glad you liked the video and giving you a shout out was the least I could do, considering all the great things you’ve done for Season of Shadows and Wind of the Soul!

    autumnforest,

Very cool! I’ve been compared to certain people before, but never Jack or Nicholas Cage. :) Funny you should mention the cereal bowl staying in each video, because I was thinking about having a different Halloween food with me during my future installments. Thanks for the kind feedback.

    Ghoul Friday,

Glad to hear you’re working on overcoming some fears too. I hope it went well for you. No matter the outcome, as long as we take the action, it’s always better than hanging back in a fearful place.

That sucks about the cereal not being available there. If you can’t find them at all, let me know. I’ll pick some up and send them to you, if you like (seriously).

Thanks for the offer on helping me out with color. That’s another reason I love Halloween so much, it’s pretty straightforward when it comes to colors: black, orange and sometimes gray. :) Selecting paint for groundbreakers can be tricky though.

    Goldie,

Thank you, my friend! Though it was something as simple as setting up the camera and talking — symbolically speaking, it was a huge breakthrough in so many ways… “Break on through to the other side” — had to get a little Doors’ action in there. ;)

You’re very welcome about the shout out. No worries about not having a website. I appreciate everyone who takes time to visit this site, whether they have a spot on the internet or not. Just like Atrueoriginal, you’ve been phenomenal in supporting Season of Shadows and I can’t thank you enough!
