Halloween Wine
December 1st, 2008 by John Wolfe
My insatiable search continues for all items Halloween. I’m not much of an imbiber, in fact I’m a teetotaler, but I couldn’t resist posting Halloween themed wine. Hallowine is described as “a sweet apple wine, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg.” “It’s most popular in fall, when served warm… a dangerous substitute for apple cider”, according to dcwine.com – where it’s available for $9.99 a bottle.
I’d like to thank Linda Thompson for the photo of Hallowine. She snapped this shot while visiting a great shop in Door County, Wisconsin.

Yumm! Though I live so close to wine country, I’ve never been much of a wine drinker. However, I have tasted some exquisite wine from a friend who was into the wine business and I was often surprised how a wine could “taste” wood-sey” and still taste good. John, your description of this wine sort of reminded me of that moment in time. The wine was sweet, fruity, warm upon the tongue and after I swallowed…..if I inhaled through my mouth with my lips shaped like an O, sure enough, there was a delightful and yummy taste of wood! LoL….yes, it did taste good. This wine you described here has all of the tasting elements I enjoy. BUT, yet again, you shock me by the things you find as I have never heard of Hallowine. Insatiable desire indeed my friend………extremely insatiable!

Goldie,
Are you sure you’re not a wine connoisseur? From your comment, it sounds like you know what you’re doing.
…just teasing. So, are you going to pick up a bottle?
Rot,
Thanks, man. My searches take me all over the place and I always eventually find something obscure and unique.

I wasn’t planning on getting a bottle but the more I think of this combo, the more “I want it!” TeeHee……lol, wow John, me…..a wine connoisseur? My friend would be delighted to hear you say such a thing about me given how little I used to know. I guess I picked up more from him and his extensive wine experience than I thought. This all happened in one afternoon as he had a small wine tasting bar in his home. I must have tasted around 30 different kinds of wine and they truly did all have their own taste. That’s where I found out I do not like dry wine or bitter wine but lean to the softer, smoother and sweeter wines. What a compliment! Thank you John……now if I could just remember the name of that wine……lol, little too much wine tasting by then I suppose

Now, when you say you tasted 30 different wines – you do mean tasted and then spit them out, not swallowed, right? If you drank over 30 samples, then it’s very understandable why you couldn’t remember the name…lol.
Let me know how it turns out, if you pick up a bottle.

LoL, good Lord John, Sweetie, I’m such a light head if I swallowed 30 different kinds of wine, I would barely be able to hold up the next glass. That was my friends pet-peeve, that I spit out the wine in the container and then rinsed my mouth out with water. That’s why when I found the next to final wine I tasted (he fine tuned my taste of wine–well done I might add) then I was “rewarded” with a half glass of my chosen wine. After a lengthly conversation that day, I persuaded him to sell me the un-opened bottle so I could take it home and enjoy it more thorougly
You mean your not going to order one and give it a try?

If I order it, it will find its way to my grandparents’ house. While they aren’t that big on alcohol, my grandfather does enjoy something once in a blue moon.
He’d probably love a bottle.
