Halloween With Buratino

May 5th, 2010 by John Wolfe

After stumbling on this clip today, I did a little digging and found out the main character, Buratino, is actually based on a Russian version of Pinocchio. In fact, Buratino originated in Italy, but was made popular in Russia by Aleksey Tolstoy’s book, “The Golden Key.”

I have no idea what’s being said in the vid (I love hearing them speak though), but it appears Buratino is begging his father, Papa Carlo (a Geppetto-like character), to get him a Halloween costume. Carlo obliges, but not in the way Buratino was expecting!

I’m not sure if this cartoon is popular with Russian children or what, but if so, I can imagine a few nightmares being induced by it!

Oh man! You’re totally right, John! Jeez–that would have freaked me out, but then I do recall some of those awful Loony Tunes being kinda freaky that way too, having an arm chopped off and stuff. Personally, I like the “after” better than his “before.”

Yikes, remind me to never ask my Papa for a Halloween costume. Hey, LoL, I guess you have to work with what you have ;-) I’m the same way John about other languages that I don’t understand; I love listening to them speak. Plus if your good at reading body language, you can usually pick up on what’s being said or what the conversation is about. By the way, that was one creepy cartoon ;-)

He’s actually asking him for a pumpkin

Ha! that is so very dark by our cultures standards. I love it! :)

    autumnforest,

I know what you mean about those Loony Tune cartoons, especially the very old Merrie Melodies. There’s one of those I’ve been searching high and low for and haven’t been able to find for quite some time. It must have been made during the ’30s and involved a drugstore whose medications come to life after the shop closes up for the night. The characters on the labels jump off and start interacting with one another. There’s a witch and a skull and cross bones and a lot of other cool, creepy visuals in that one.

    Goldie,

You always say that you prefer homemade to store bought when it comes to costumes. :) I suppose this would be considered an extreme homemade costume.

    Edward,

Very cool! I swung and missed on my guess. Thanks for letting me know.

    Ethan,

    Glad you enjoyed it!
