Happy October 1st
October 1st, 2009 by John Wolfe
The big one has finally arrived! In honor of kicking off the best month of the year (in my opinion), here’s an image of a little witchy poo’s midnight ride. While these types of photos have become standard fare for wallpaper and screensavers, this one immediately took me back to my childhood. The crooked shack on a hill, silhouetted tombstones and somewhat foggy night, in my mind, were all elements of the perfect Halloween.
While other kids were dreaming about sinking the winning basket or knocking a homer over the fence, I was imagining how to create haunt scenarios.
At around age eight, I can still recall interrupting playtime with some friends because I noticed a big mound of dirt. Immediately, I envisioned that mound playing a role in a great cemetery display for Halloween. I visualized the looks of terror on the trick-or-treaters faces as a shadowy figure unearthed a grave near the mound; his actions slightly illuminated by a hanging lantern.
As the trick-or-treaters looked on, a corpse would rise from the grave to pull the figure below the surface! Eventually, I quit sharing “episodes” like this one with my buddies. They thought I was nuts to be logistically planning Halloween haunt scenarios in spring.
Have a great October 1st, everyone!

Happy October 1st to you dear friend
You might want to check your PO box in about a week, if you have time that is
Just a little Halloween something for you, of course.
I absolutely adore this photo and as soon as I saw it, I instantly wanted to make it my new wallpaper for the big pc at home. I love images like this, the BIG full moon, the variety of color in the blue of the night, the witch enjoying her evening stroll as I’ve always secretly wished I could do the same, the trail of bats filling the night air with song, the crisp cool breeze of the season of fall and on and on it goes. Truly an excellent photo.
Don’t feel bad John, I was the weirdo also in school at a very young age. In the 4th grade I checked out a book simply called “Halloween” which was filled of spooky stories as well as the history of Halloween. Though there are minimial pictures and all are in black and white, there was just something about seeing that book in my flip up desk top in elementary school that would take me back to “that feeling” I would get exclusively in October. All the girls but one thought I was spooky for having the book and the boys thought I was cool, which made me more of an outcast with the girls. I still have that book and it’s displayed on a bookshelf I see often.
Anyhow, Happy Haunting John and I to have noticed this week that the Christmas items are now on the opposite side of the Halloween isle. **Heavy sigh**Halloween never seems to last very long does it
All My Best, Goldie

Thanks, you guys!
I know what you mean, Goldie. I was in Walmart this morning and all I could hear was Christmas music coming from a few aisles over. It sounded like it was coming from one of those CD sampler display boxes. Someone had selected the album and it kept playing. I was concentrating on what I was doing and before I knew it, I was humming the tune. Thanks in advance for what you sent. I absolutely look forward to it and will be checking the box very soon. You rock!
