Haunt Music: JudgeHydrogen

September 8th, 2009 by John Wolfe

Dark, ambient soundscapes have quickly become my favorite style of audio to play during Halloween night. Many years ago, I used to employee the standard Halloween fare consisting of cackling witches, disembodied moans, chiming clocks and organs playing some sort of death march. While those particular sounds have their place, as my haunt has evolved from a “startle” event into a more artistic venture; I feel the music should reflect the atmosphere.

My first experience with dark ambient styling came several years ago in the form of Midnight Syndicate and has continued to unfold ever since. Recently, I learned of a new, gothic project called JudgeHydrogen. Described as doom anthems, tracks like “Precipice” from “Cult of Blood” and “A Body of Water” from “Atheistic God” are superb, especially for a home haunt.

Several other tracks do contain vocals and I know how many home haunters feel about vocalization in their haunt music. I’m of a similar school of thought, however, I do love including creepy chants in my graveyard’s soundtrack. Swing by JudgeHydrogen, give a listen and see what you think.

If you’re a true haunt nut like me, then this is the type of music that doesn’t have to be reserved for Halloween night. It comes in handy to fire you up in the dead of winter for prop building as well!

I really liked the athiest god one–it’s perfect background music when I’m writing horror because I just can’t write when a song has lyrics.

I’m the same way. When I’m writing, there’s usually very little music or if I am listening to something, then it’s always instrumental.
