Haunted House

August 9th, 2009 by John Wolfe

I’m not sure how many of you remember the song “Haunted House” by Jumpin’ Gene Simmons (not to be confused with the tonguey frontman from KISS), but thanks to You Tube user whopfrog, you can experience it in all its 45 RPM glory. While I don’t believe this one ever reached the level of popularity seen by other Halloween/horror related novelty songs, such as “Monster Mash” and “Purple People Eater,” it has a great sound and a catchy tune.

Whenever I’m in the “Haunted House” mood, I pop in the Wolfman Jack Halloween Special CD. Wolfman’s Monster Mash Bash has some good music, however, many of the songs are covers and aren’t the original versions. “Haunted House” happens to be one of only a couple by the original artists.

Oh my goodness, you have NO idea how much this takes me back in time to when my brother was so small and we would spend hours upstairs in our room listening to our 45′s. Very nice find John, thank you :-)

Thanks, Goldie. I know what you mean. I remember having my record player loaded with records (usually Disney stuff) – as soon as one would finish, another would drop down on top. Many hours were spent with those records. In fact, I probably spent far more time listening to recorded stories and music as a child than I ever did in front of the TV.

Cool–never heard that one. It’s hard to believe with all the metal-heads nowadays there’s really no good modern Halloween anthems. Jeez!

I used to listen to Rob Zombie’s stuff (Hellbilly Deluxe mostly), but that would be considered more tongue-in-cheek horror, I guess. You’re right, nobody really sings about Halloween in a cool way these days. The majority of genre’s stick with the sex sells motto and their lyrics reflect it.

I grew up listening to this! They used to play it during my town’s Halloween parade, and I had a Halloween cassette that had this song on it. Blast from the past, thanks for sharing!
