Haunted Tour of Turbidite Manor
July 25th, 2009 by John WolfeIf your concept of good Halloween fun hinges primarily on the premise of severed body parts, scantly clad, submissive female victims and a guy wielding a sharp kitchen utensil, then the video in this post is going to disappoint. However, if you’re like me and you enjoy metaphysical elements and suspenseful, dark ambiance, you’re gonna love it!
Turbidite Manor employees a very classy blend of haunting styles, created through modern technology and old school, theatrical illusions to entertain its visitors. According to Nathan Hamilton (the attraction’s owner), this video merely samples the decor, but it doesn’t reveal many of the haunt’s interactive, ghostly inhabitants. I full-on applaud and enthusiastically support haunts such as this. It is so refreshing to see Halloween being represented in this manner.
The first couple minutes of the video simply lay the groundwork, but hang in there. By the time the tour moved into “The Study”, I found myself getting lost in its incredible atmosphere.

John! How cool would that be to be doing evp/video camera research and to find a house like this that was RICH in paranormal activity?!!!! Oddly enough, as much as I thought I needed to sit “away” from my monitor, I found I wanted to sit close and turn UP my speakers
I kept thinking, “wouldn’t it be great to capture this much activity in real life at the old-city cemetery OR a house that’s been abandoned.”
One of the attributes about where I live are the very very OLD victorian houses built in the 1800′s for each room is unique, the flooring is all hard word so creaking is often heard, the homes are usually two stories and the attic is always the gem of the entire house. I do agree fully with you about the essence of Halloween being more about the style demonstrated here in this video and NOT the commercialized Halloween that all of society craves. As much as I can’t stand haunted houses, this is one house I would have great fun going inside of.
OH and I loved the soundtrack they played!!!! That’s always been one of my favorite Halloween sounds since I was in the third grade. Just a constant wind/moaning sound and no screaming, no chainsaw and so forth. I could fall asleep to the sounds played here……..it was so relaxing
I DO like your style of Halloween John. Yet again it’s been through YOUR website that I’m able to find the more genuine Halloween style I’ve been looking for years, if not decades. Thank you my friend

John–Did you see the video of the guided tour with Nathan Hamilton from TM? It was odd to see a human in street clothes walking so casually through the haunted house. I liked how he described what inspired him to create the house as he did. I also liked the end when you see all of the adults huddled so close together you thought they were 3 people in one
I was guilty of doing that in Florida behind my 6’3 wall of a bf…….who thought it would be funny to break away from me fast and leave me all alone in the dark. It was so dark in there, I couldn’t even see my hand in front of my face!!!!! Needless to say, I had some words for him afterwards…….well after I bolted out of the exit doors that is

I agree about how incredible it would be to find a house like this that truly was haunted. After doing a lot of novice paranormal research, it’s provided me with even better ideas of what could be incorporated into a Halloween haunt.
There are still many Victorian homes here in New Mexico as well, but unfortunately, the majority are falling into disrepair. The Luna Mansion (one of my oldest blog posts) is actually an adobe structure, but was built in the Victorian style. Thankfully, it’s been well taken care of over the years. I love seeing historic homes restored and rejuvenated to their original glory.
Yeah, the soundtrack was very cool. As you know, I’m all about sound!
I didn’t see the other video you’re talking about. I’ll definitely enjoy watching it. Thanks for letting me know.
I’m happy to hear you’re feeling “my style” of Halloween. Thanks for sharing that, Goldie, as feedback always means a lot to me.

Thanks so much for the acknowledgment! A lot of thought and hard work has gone into the Manor and it is gratifying to know that there are people out there who appreciate it. I’m about to open the Manor’s doors once again after a two season hiatus, having now formed a partnership in TN known as “Haunted Nashville”. Check out HauntedNashville.com for details!
[PS You may notice I've disabled the video temporarily... this is to not give away the show before my new audience can experience it in person... the video will return with the same YouTube embed code in a few weeks.]
