In Search of Haunted Castles

May 12th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Once again donning my leisure suit, dusting off my 8-track collection, and firing up the lava lamp–I’ve ventured back into the ’70s with my favorite retro paranormal series, “In Search Of…” This time around, through a mixture of personal experiences and (no doubt) urban legend, Leonard Nimoy takes us on a journey to a few of England’s haunted castles. I remember seeing many installments of In Search Of during the late ’70s and early ’80s, but I think this was one I missed.

I love this one! I put the series on my want list for acquiring. I just think it’s like “Twilight Zone.” The way it was done, his voice, the things they showed–it just wasn’t like anything else on TV and would mesmerize me. Huge fan! It’s too cool to find someone else who “gets” it.

I know where you’re coming from–In Search Of, for me, is one of those underrated programs that’s sort of slipped into obscurity. Whether the stories were factual or not, they certainly were entertaining and the way they were presented could set the perfect mood–especially during the ’70s when things like the paranormal seemed even more mysterious!

Oh wow, Mom and I used to watch this show all the time!!! The variety of memories that you bring back to me is astonishing. I had no idea when I fell in love with SOS that I would be reminded of so many great memories of my youth. SyFy should stop having so many spin-offs from the same program (i.e. so many GH versions!) and dive into these great treasures from the 70′s and 80′s, digitally remaster them and then bring the series back. Yes, here are plenty of young adults who eat up their new shows but there’s plenty of us 30-50 year olds that have special feelings created when we view programs that were so close to our heart as children growing up. This was an excellent find my friend, thank you for sharing.

I think one of the cable networks used to replay these a few years back, but I forget which one it was. I’d love to see In Search Of brought back in the exact way you described to a channel like SyFy. Of course, I suppose my opinion doesn’t count for much since I don’t even have cable or satellite. ;) Guess if they do bring it back, then I’ll have to catch it on Hulu.

Goldie, I’m glad my posts bring back some cool memories! I do tend to gravitate more towards retro stuff when I’m looking for Halloween and the paranormal.
