Jack-O-Lantern Lantern

February 28th, 2009 by John Wolfe

The title for this entry is a tad redundant. Here, around Albuquerque, New Mexico, we call a lantern like this a luminaria – either way, it’s a metallic sack with a grinning jack-o-lantern face on it. I’m always joking around on Twitter about doing “inappropriate” Halloween things in February to freak people out, for example: digging a really deep hole in the yard at midnight or rattling chains in the attic at 2 AM. It’s my way of fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming Gomez Addams. The mustache is coming in nicely, by the way. :D

If I had just a few more of these lanterns, I would seriously decorate the yard, right now, eight months out from Halloween.

Speaking of Jack-o-Lanterns, here is a little something I thought you would enjoy very much. If you get around to it, it can be a really great addition to your yard haunt!

    Andrea,

Thank you so much for the Superior Scribbler Award. I really appreciate the fact you included me in your five! :) I signed the official list and I’ll be posting my own five soon.

    oldhalloween,

Very cool! I stopped by your site to check out your shop. I love all the vintage Halloween items you have for sale. Thanks for your comment.

    HalloweenLvrNo1,

That reminds me of something we did in Halloween ’98: on top of our haunt maze, leading up to the front door, we attached a 12 ft tall ghost with a strobe light in its head! It looked wild, but it helped to attract the trick-or-treaters! Thanks for sharing.

And since when has looking wild ever been a bad thing? ;)

  6. John Wolfe Says:

Very true, but this thing was wild, as in funky! :D It was a very quickly put together prop. I don’t have a scanner, but I’ll see if I can find the image and take a photo of it.

I need to prepare all of my Halloween food dishes in order to photograph them and create how-tos. But that’ll leave me w/ a ton of food! The solution…a Halloween party in July! (or March or April…)

  8. John Wolfe Says:

Absolutely, Victor. I understand that totally. It’s similar to the Christmas specials they air on television. They film those things in June or July and everyone has to act like it’s cold!
