Poe: Last Days of The Raven

August 13th, 2009 by John Wolfe

I often speak about how I take in very few movies, but this is one film that has my attention. Last Days of the Raven chronicles Poe’s final hours through the juxtaposition of his work and the inspiration he derived from personal experiences. Through a combination of theater, film and CGI, Poe’s most intriguing and macabre literary contributions are brought to life in a dark, Gothic setting. The project has been a labor of love for Brent Fidler (Poe star, screenwriter and producer) since 1983.

Long before becoming a feature film, Brent performed the story as a one-man play in Manitoba. The passion and connection he has to Poe’s work is extremely evident, both in the clips I’ve seen and at the Last Days of the Raven website.

“Poe: Last Days of The Raven” is available for purchase at the site and is slated to air on the Bravo Network this October… just in time for Halloween.

I don’t know how I missed that one–it looks fantastic.

I was thinking the same thing,”How did I miss this?” Hollywood is supposed to be working on a Poe project. I believe Stallone wrote the screenplay, but I’m not sure if or when it will be out. I love independent films like Last Days of The Raven, however, because they are such a labor of love and created through passion and devotion.
