Pumpkin Nog
August 9th, 2009 by John Wolfe
Out of all the entries I’ve written, I probably receive more feedback pertaining to Halloween Egg Nog than any other. Apparently, to find retailers selling egg nog during the month of October (featuring Halloween artwork on the carton) is even more rare than I first realized. While I would love to overnight a carton, packed in dry ice, to everyone who’s inquired, I know that’s not really feasible. Instead, I’ve tried to do the next best thing by tracking down a great pumpkin nog recipe.
Though pumpkin nog isn’t exactly the same as the egg variety, the pumpkin flavor should contribute to your festive Halloween mood; especially when you consider Halloween Nog doesn’t contain pumpkin and is identical to Christmas Nog — the only difference is the packaging. I haven’t whipped up this recipe yet, but it has received five stars from everyone that’s tried it.
It sounds extremely simple to make, so I’ll definitely be stopping by my local grocery store to pick up the ingredients, which include: pumpkin, honey, evaporated milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and ice cream. For specific quantities and instructions on how to combine the ingredients, visit Very Best Baking’s Pumpkin Nog page.
While the recipe calls for vanilla ice cream, I bet pumpkin ice cream would be really awesome. Of course, pumpkin flavored ice cream won’t be released for a few more weeks. Hang in there, fall and Halloween are on their way. ![]()

Oh wow, I had no idea I was making Halloween Nog all this time!!! To funny. See around here, Jamba Juice USED to make this killer pumpkin smoothie in the fall season. I would buy at least 2 of them a week. Anyhow due to lack of demand for the drinks, which broke my heart, JJ stopped carrying it. After speaking to the manager, he told me the list of ingredients and that I could wipe it up on my own. Upon trying to do so, he was correct and to this day it’s a drink/smoothie I still treat myself to often with the help of my blender. After reading your list of ingredients for Halloween Nog, I do believe I’ve been making it all along
Using real vanilla ice creams does keep it more on the light side of the pumpkin taste where using pumpkin ice cream indeed slams it into overdrive of pumpkin flavor, both of which are fantastic. You can also mix up those ingredients and freeze it for a nog ice cream treat. It’s a great recipe because you can play with it a few different ways. Oh, also if you but the Libby’s Pumpkin All Spice in the can, WOW, talk about an explosion of fall flavors. It’s the only pumpkin in a can mixture I buy. Thanks for this posting though John and ONE OF THESE DAYS, you’ll get your head out of your stomach
Your driving us nuts and encouraging those early fall pounds to come on sooner than we care for
Did you see that yummy recipe for “Bananas about Pumpkin Pudding?” Just type it in the search bar on that same website where you found the pumpkin egg nog recipe and you’ll find it in no time. It’s simple, easy to make and would make for a wonderful fat free cool dessert item late at night, shoot even in the morning upon waking up. I think I’ll make this one today or tomorrow. I LOVE to cook!!! Thanks for the inspiration John, you tend to do that for me on more than one level my friend
P.S. Can you recommend any good websites that have free Halloween wallpaper???? The ones I’ve found so far are beyond lame

Sorry to hear your Jamba Juice stopped carrying the pumpkin nog drink. But, that was very cool of the manager to provide you with a list of the ingredients! Your grocery stores don’t carry pumpkin ice cream outside of fall and winter do they?
As long as it has to do with Halloween, and I’m feeling its vibe, my head won’t be leaving my stomach anytime soon.
I didn’t see the Bananas about Pumpkin Pudding recipe. I’ll go back and look for that one. If you tried it, please let me know how it turned out.
Sorry, I can’t really recommend a site that specifically deals in wallpaper. Maybe another visitor has a good, safe recommendation they can leave as a comment.

The Bananas about Pumpkin turned out amazing and I can see why it had such high reviews. I’ve never mixed those two flavors together and blended as well as an old married couple….they mixed perfectly together….happily married couple that is
It’s super easy to make too, also a big plus.
All you need is a can of pumpkin all spice pie mix, instant banana pudding, evaporated milk, cool-whip and vanilla waffers. Crumble waffers into bottom of custard dish as you liking, pour over it a latel full of the mixture, lay out thinly sliced bananas, more crumble waffers, another thick layer of mixture and top it off with banana slices and a cookie waffer plus a dob of whip cream and put in the fridge to chill. I put mine in the freezer so it could chill faster and made one for my whole family. It was absolutely devoured less than 2 hours later and even our Boxers wanted a bite. It’s a very rich and creamy dessert dish and excellent for all pumpkin lovers. 5 stars for sure!

Glad to hear it was a big success! There’s definitely a trip to Wal-Mart in my future. Both for Pumpkin Nog ingredients, as well as for Bananas About Pumpkin fixings.

Okay, gotta try that one. I usually buy the six-pack of pumpkin ale at Cost Plus Imports every fall–love that stuff! This recipe sounds like a good alternative for everyone who doesn’t like the ale.

Definitely. This would a great alternative to pumpkin ale. I’ve never been much on beer or alcohol, so I always look for the non-alcoholic Halloween stuff, myself.
