A Pumpkinrot Halloween
September 9th, 2008 by John WolfeTalk to any internet savvy Halloween yard haunter about paper mache corpses and the name Pumpkinrot will quickly find its way into the conversation. ‘Rot has become synonymous with all things creatively dark and macabre. It’s safe to say the scarecrow and zombie props, found in his haunt, have provided trick or treat bags full of inspiration to Halloween haunt enthusiasts everywhere.
I first came across Pumkinrot.com late in the summer of 2006. And, while I had been doing my own Halloween home haunt for many years, I was not at all in the loop with the online haunt community. To say I was blown away by his vivid photographs would be an understatement. As I scrolled through his image galleries, I was transported back to what my ideas of Halloween resembled as a child.
That’s not to imply the site is for children, rather I was a weird kid
- one that enjoyed extremely spooky things- even at a young age. At eight years old, I used to imagine setting up yard haunt scenarios that included grave diggers being attacked by undead corpses, but I digress…told you I was a weird kid.
One of my favorite words, which I use often when relating to Halloween, is ambiance- Pumpkinrot is loaded with it! The corpses appear to crawl out of the grave and off the page. There is such an artistic eye for detail, in every prop; you honestly forget you’re looking at someone’s home on Halloween night.
I have to take my hat off to the creator of the site, for without seeing his amazing creations I would never have thought of haunting a yard with paper towels, glue, water and a ton of imagination and talent! If you haven’t done so before, I highly recommend dropping by Pumpkinrot to soak up the creative, creepy Halloween atmosphere.

Could not agree more.
2006 was the year I found his site as well. I spent hours on it looking at every picture and video I could find.
The thing is his haunts look like things I’ve always pictured in my head as relating to Halloween.
My favorite parts of Halloween are pumpkins, scarecrows, witches and cemeteries - he does all of those perfectly.
I wouldn’t sell yourself short however. Pumpkinrot is the site that lead me to the idea that you could actually create your own yard haunt props (or artwork really) So when I went looking for howto’s on doing these things your scarecrow stopped me dead in my tracks it was so freaking creeptacular and I ended up devouring every inch of your site as well. I LOVE corn fields and you do that perfectly. In fact, I think you’ve achieved about the same level of spookiness as Rot’s. At least from the pictures I’ve seen.
The other great thing about Rot is his knack for photography and video composition. I look forward to his videos as much as anything else.
Can you feel the love?
cheers

Thanks for your kind words, Johnny. It’s an honor to know you include my haunt with the likes of Pumpkinrot. I’m still lacking sheer volume of corpses, but I hope to remedy that for sure by next year.
Pumpkinrot absolutely has set the bar on yard haunts and it’s an inspiration to see his creations progress, each and every season.
And, while I haven’t seen your work recently, (I’m wanting to get back to your site soon) you have some excellent talent for corpsing as well!
So, thanks for spreading the love, man…and right back at ‘ya!
