Retro Halloween Candy: Wax Fangs
November 15th, 2008 by John Wolfe
It just hit me a few days ago that something was missing from my Halloween celebration this year – wax lips and wax fangs. As a kid, I used to mess with these things every year, along with some other wax candy/toy that had a sweet liquid inside. You could bite the wax off the end and drink it. I think they were called wax bottles. If anyone remembers their name, please let me know.
Eventually, I forgot about my Halloween wax “fetish”, until three years ago when the Fright Catalog sent a set of wax fangs along with one of my orders. I was instantly hooked once again. Only now, I don’t put them in my mouth, I use them as a gag gift to bother a few family members – primarily my grandfather! It’s an inside joke.

Of course, who could forget the wax lips and bottles. I remember playing with my fangs for a bit and the wax was such a tough sticky wax so they lasted a while. Now the wax bottles never lasted long but after you pop the top, suck the juice-it scares me to think of what I was really drinking- then the wax bottle was tossed away after you squished it between the fingers for a short bit. Another retro candy fav….candy necklace. A parents worst nightmare
Candy AROUND the neck…..oh joy! Thanks for the time warp John, as always

Thanks, Goldie. I couldn’t remember if it was the wax bottles that had the liquid inside or something else. Yeah, I also wondered what was in that mixture – probably sugar water.
Candy around the neck was definitely another one. I remember we even strung some sort of candy around the Christmas tree in one of my elementary school classes. The tree sat right near one of the kids’ desks. Every chance he got, he was eating the candy off the tree when the teacher wasn’t looking – using the old “no hands” style to do it…lol!
