Revisiting Spirit Halloween Store

September 25th, 2008 by John Wolfe

I finally had the opportunity to swing by the west side Spirit Store today. This was the third and final Albuquerque Spirit location I’ve visited and it was worth the wait. It looks as though they have not only expanded upon their square footage but they also appear to have far more merchandise than last year. As you can see from the images, I found a few things which weren’t even available at the other locations.

While the animated props were pretty similar to the ones featured in my
Halloween Haunter’s Episode 3 video, there were several new, static props which caught my eye- the Lawn Zombie happened to be one of them. Seeing how groundbreakers are my favorite, it’s only natural this guy would grab my attention. I know the Fright Catalog carries some similar zombies, but I’ve never actually ordered one or seen them in person. I have to say, this is a high quality grave buster- not like the flat plastic kind which seem to be showing up at the retail stores.

While I was there, I picked up some white hair coloring. I don’t have the opportunity to dress up anymore, since I’m so busy tending to the haunt on Halloween night. But, I figured I’d at least wear my
new zombie shirt and “dye” my hair completely white. If I like it, I may keep it that way permanently. 8) Also grabbed two flicker, mini-flame lights. They’re a faux fire which dances around inside small cauldrons, suspended from chains. Both will be used, along with a black light, to provide mood lighting on the front porch. Once again, I’ll be including the Spirit video footage in my next Haunter’s installment.

If you guys happen to be in the Albuquerque area, I highly recommend stopping by the west side Spirit Store. It’s located in the Alameda West Shopping Center at 10131 North Coors Blvd, near the Cottonwood Mall. Update 9/8/09: They can be reached at (505) 897-1057. The staff was awesome, helpful and more than willing to let me film and take photographs. They also displayed my fliers in a primo location, near the main cash register. :) Thanks guys!!

Update 10/9/08 9/8/09: If you’re looking for a Spirit Halloween Superstore on the east side of Albuquerque, they can be found at 4610 Cutler Avenue, NE (505) 872-2786 and at 1221 South Renaissance Blvd. NE (505) 344-2556. Tell them Season of Shadows sent you. :)

There is a Spirit location about 40 miles from here. Think I’m going to make the trip and check it out.
    They just sound too cool.

White hair huh? Leave it that way huh? Keep it that way permanently huh? Now THAT I’ve got to see!! I must say you would be the FIRST 30 year old something that has/had DILEBRATELY changed your hair to white when clearly you have a thick beautiful dark, DARK hair ;-) I dare you…LoL….be sure to update us with pics around Thanksgiving time showing us your “white” hair. My money is still placed on the dark locks you naturally have. When you do color your hair, be sure to post a pic for all of us to see. I’ll believe it when I see it and YES that ground breaking zombie is fantastic but I still prefer how you have arranged the arm and hand to reach OUT to children walking by. That’s one spooky looking corpse your making, of course, all of them are :-) Happy Creating dear friend.

    All my Best, Goldie~~~

    Johnny,

Yeah, Spirit Store has some great stuff. I’ve been visiting them in Albuquerque since 1995. Back then, they only had the single store. Now, they’ve branched out into three locations.

    Goldie,

I used to permanently dye it all of the time. :) It’s been totally blond, highlighted blond, completely auburn, and some funky red color before. So, white won’t be any big stretch for me. Granted, it’s been a few years since I’ve permanently dyed it, but I’m looking forward to the white- even if it’s made to wash out. Keeping it dark gets boring. I used to enjoy the variety and I’m starting to get the hankering to dye it up again.

Glad you like the new prop! I’ve been putting video together while I’ve been adding the skin. I’m looking to have Halloween Haunters Reality #4 out by next weekend. The texture on this new one isn’t going to be shredded. It’s going to be more of a “classic” corpsing.
