Sounds of Terror

I can’t tell you how big a role “Sounds of Terror”, aka “Goofy Gold With Horror Sounds” played in my life at five-years old! I was absolutely addicted to this 8-Track. I can still recall seeing the commercial on television in the late 70′s and begging my parents to order it. If I remember correctly, the ad featured a visual montage of monsters (as cartoons?) while a sample of the album’s tracks played. Naturally, once I saw that, there was no turning back. Sounds of Terror’s concept was to combine goofy classic songs, such as “Monster Mash”, “Purple People Eater” and “Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport” with Halloween or horror sound effects.
Four songs would play, per track, followed by several minutes of screeches, screams, howls, etc. If you’re interested in seeing a breakdown of the entire album, then I highly suggest swinging by 8 Track Heaven.
Though I was unable to find Sounds of Terror available anywhere online, I have located every song on You Tube, minus the horror sounds. I haven’t heard some of those goofy hits in almost thirty years. Good times!

I’m really enjoying your videos and blog. When I was a kid I had a cassette tape of “Spooky Sounds of Halloween” released by K-Tel that I played and played until the tape stretched! It was a great mix of most of those classic Halloween sound effects- thunder, heartbeat, wind, wolf howling that were always used. Thank you for bringing back some great childhood memories of Halloween and all it’s trappings for me and keep up the wonderful work.

It’s my pleasure, Camile. I know what you mean about playing Halloween tapes till they’re worn out. My 8-Track of Goofy Gold With Horror Sounds eventually lost most of the sound quality. I used to invite the neighborhood kids over and we would listen to that thing every morning before school for several weeks prior to Halloween. I wish they would re-release a lot of those old classics on CD.
Thanks for visiting and commenting. I’m glad you’re enjoying the site.

If your readers are looking for a good, kinda scary, halloween soundtrack, this one is downloadable and free. You can listen before downloading. You can use it. You can share it. But you can’t sell it.
